Ogunquit means “beautiful place by the sea” in the native Abenaki language, and over time transformed from a maritime village into somewhat of a small art colony. The ocean is the main attraction and the town has been built around fishing going back hundreds of years. If you walk Marginal Way you’ll be able to see the majority of the coastline in the town, and Perkins Cove will allow you to see how the town originally formed around the Cove as a fishing village.
The weather in Ogunquit is quite cold during winter and through spring as you’d probably expect. Definitely bring a heavy jacket if you’re visiting during the winter months, and lighter jackets if you’re coming towards Spring.

Perkins Cove is your traditional New England fishing village, complete with local fishermen and stands serving up favorites like piping hot clam chowder (clam chowda in local speak). Ogunquit Playhouse is a great place to see a play and the thriving arts scene here means that the art galleries can’t be passed over either.

Ogunquit is fairly remote so we definitely recommend renting a car so you can easily traverse Maine and see all of the wonderful sites & destinations across New England. Public transport is extremely limited as you’d imagine, so that’s just another reason you’re better off renting a car.
As far as airports go, Portland International (PWM) is probably your best bet. PWM is the busiest & largest airport in Maine so naturally it has the most routes in the state. Fly into Portland, and then rent a car!
