Located in the river town of Piermont, Rockland County, New York, just four miles north of the New Jersey border and 12 miles north of George Washington Bridge. Riverview "Organic" Bed and Breakfast operates out of a historic horse drawn Firehouse, built in the mid 1800's by the Erie Railroad, in the original Piermont settlement. There are still tar markings on the brick wall that show where the horses were stabled when it was still a two story building. Sometime in the late 1800's, the stable was converted to a single story addition and served for a short time as the Village Hall. With the tidal Sparkill Creek on one side, one can imagine the Firemen pumped the water up to fill their tanks. (Remember there were no fire hydrants at the time) and with the dirt road on the other side, envision them quickly getting on their way. This exclusive, pet friendly bed and breakfast offers girlfriends’ getaways, and romantic couples’ stays, as well as for working travelers and those exploring the history of the area. "The Bed & Breakfast " consists of two Private Suites with queen size beds, living areas and private bathrooms. Shops and roughly 16 restaurants to choose from are just a five-seven minutes walk away (depending on your gait) The suites are available for short & long-term stays . We hope that you find it as charming as we do. The wooden shutters, window boxes, and courtyard next to the gurgling creek, all come together to create an old world European charm. During your stay enjoy an "Organic" Home-made breakfast (much of it grass-fed) just like in days gone by before commercial spraying became the norm. The accommodations are comfortable and the accouterments are quite a bit more refined than in those days. Most people probably don’t think of a b&b when they think of NYC. Maybe a glitzy hotel or an upscale motel pops to mind first. But don’t write off some of the coolest New York bed and breakfast spots you’ll likely ever see. From classic brownstone houses near Manhattan to funky little gems in Harlem, expect the unexpected from NYC’s bed and break scene.
New York state is so much more than NYC, of course. Ithaca is one of the most gorgeous places you could possibly visit in New York,, overflowing with botanical gardens and stunning nature like the Cascadilla Falls. There are bed and breakfast aplenty in Ithaca, and that’s just one of New York’s amazing attractions.
Fort Ticonderoga is a famous historical landmark built by the French back in the 1700’s. They used the Fort to help protect themselves against the British back in the day. Worth checking out if you’re looking for some history to discover while visiting New York.
Adirondack State Park is a beautiful expanse that rivals any other National Park you’ll find in the U.S. Containing thousands of streams and even more forest, you can hike, ski, paddle, and walk to your heart's content.
Also consider the Catskills if you’re looking for a dose of nature. Located in the Southeast of NY, there are lovely trails for hiking & exploring. This is a phenomenal place to see the leaves change in Fall as well!
With so many different options for a bed & breakfast New York experience, take your time and do a little research to find out which area of NY you’d love to discover.
New York’s history needs very little explaining to the average Americans. As one of the most powerful and influential states in the U.S., and indeed the world, New York is rich in history and stories.
New York was one of the original 13 colonies that made up the United States. As the leading entry point for new migrants into the United States, New York captured the rich culture of Europe through Italians, Germans, Irish, Polish, and many more unique nationalities that formed the exciting melting pot that still remains today.
The strong industries that centered around NY like finance, banking, fashion, and real estate continue to exist in the state today, making it among the wealthiest few states in America.
Today, New York is the fourth most populous state in America. New York City (NYC) is still one of the few top tier powerhouse cities worldwide, attracting businesspeople, artists, entertainers, and everyone in between.
You definitely won’t run out of things to do when you visit New York. Broadway, Niagara Falls, the Adirondack Mountains, Times Square, Long Island, the Finger Lakes….the must-see list is never ending when it comes to the Empire State.
For some of the most striking natural beauty in the U.S., you’ve got to check out the Finger Lakes. The group of 11 narrow lakes that resemble fingers (obviously) are gorgeous strips of water surrounded by lush greenery...and wineries. The Finger Lakes region is home to more wineries than anywhere else in the state if you’re looking to try some delicious grapes while immersed in natural beauty.
Is NYC your destination? Besides having more than enough to see & do for several lifetimes, NYC also has its own share of nature. The Central Park (Central Park) has to be seen to be believed. Covering over 850 acres of prime city land, Central Park has dazzled amazed tourists & residents since the park was completed in 1876. During the winter, rent a pair of skates at Wollman Ice Skating Rink & experience your own real life winter wonderland. You’ll be able to see the NYC skyline while you’re whizzing around the rink.
The Central Park Zoo is a perfect place to bring kids if you’re traveling with a family. From lemurs to sea lions to leopards, they’ve seriously got it all.
Sightseeing around the city is another major activity that can consume most of your day if you want it to. The Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor is a world famous attraction & surely on the bucket list for great sites to see around the world. Times Square is the center of the lights & action with its crazy colorful billboards and Broadway shows.
If you’re staying in NYC for a while then you won’t be able to miss the iconic brownstone houses that cover much of Brooklyn, Bushwick, and Williamsburg, and give New York its gritty charm.
Upstate New York is obviously a totally different scene then the glitz and glamour of NYC. With more space & tranquility, you might want to consider a change of scenery instead of spending all of your time in the City. Upstate is perfect for that dose of calm relaxation.
Once again, with so much on offer, it really is worth carefully planning what you care about seeing, and what kind of vacation you’re feeling.
New York is much more than skyscrapers and beautiful glass buildings. The stunning mountain ranges, forests, and lakes make the Empire State a surprisingly awesome place to visit if you’re looking to spend some quality time in the great outdoors. Western New York contains stunning parks like Letchworth State Park, with sparkling waterfalls drawing in photographers & campers from all over the place who are looking for an escape in New York.
Niagara Falls is the oldest state park in the country (established 1885) and is definitely a can’t miss location. Famous for its massive waterfall, it’s a bucket list spot for tourists from around the world.
The Adirondack State Park is the largest state park in America, and is roughly the size of Yellowstone, the Everglades, Glacier, and Grand Canyon parks...combined!! If you’re a big-time park adventurer then you’ve definitely got to add Adirondack to your list.
New York has so much to do that you might be overwhelmed if you’re looking for a starting point. NYC alone has Manhattan, Central Park, Brooklyn, Harlem, Midtown, Chelsea, and more.
If you’ve come to NY to do some shopping or high-end nightlife, visit SOHO. The fashionable neighborhood in Manhattan has gorgeous cast-iron buildings scattered among luxury shops & restaurants. This is your people watching mecca from a trendy coffee shop (if you’re into that kind of thing)
Harlem is a funky neighborhood known for its legendary jazz clubs like Showman’s Jazz Club, and eye poppingly good soul food at joints like Sylvia’s, a true NYC institution.
Chelsea, another popular neighborhood has an incredible must-see called the High Line. It’s a park built on old tracks on the west side of Manhattan.
Midtown is your sightseeing capital of NYC with famous landmarks like the Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, and the newly renovated Hudson Yards. This is where you’ll find most of NYC’s skyscrapers and also the central business district where commerce happens.
On the other hand, if you’re trying to get out of NYC, a great up and coming destination to visit is Saratoga Springs. Home to the National Museum of Horse Racing and Hall of Fame, this hub of horse racing is a fun place to check out.
The Saratoga Auto Museum has a massive collection of race cars and vintage cars, so definitely add that to the list as well.
Weather in New York differs greatly depending on where you’re staying. Long Island, New York City, and other parts of Downstate New York have very hot summers and cold winters...although the winters tend to be much warmer than Upstate New York.
Western NY and Upstate New York have some pretty harsh winters so be sure to pack plenty of warm jackets if you’re visiting the Adirondacks, Buffalo, or any of the lake regions such as the Finger Lakes.
During the summer you’ll definitely want to pack shorts or lighter clothes, especially if you’re staying around NYC. The subway can get pretty warm and the city traps a lot of heat from all of the hustle and bustle.
New York is famous for its dining and you can expect almost any type of food on Planet Earth to be available in NY. Italian, Greek, Mexican...there’s everything and anything a foodie could ever dream of in this mecca of cuisine.
If you’re in NYC and looking to check out one of the most famous spots in the city, Peter Luger Steakhouse is an institution that’s been delighting hungry patrons for decades. Luger Steakhouse serves up melt in your mouth USDA Prime steaks on a boat of melted butter just like they did in the 1950’s. Truly a once in a lifetime steakhouse experience.
For great Italian you picked the right place. NY has a Little Italy in nearly every borough, and spots like Dominick’s, Roberto’s, Celeste, or Esca will fill that Italian craving in no time.
In reality, any food you want you can have in the Big Apple. You’ll find gems around every corner so be sure to give that delicious looking pizza joint a try. It just might be the next big thing.
There’s nothing like experiencing NY like a local. Staying in a hotel just won’t give you the same atmosphere of incredible innkeepers that know the neighborhood like the back of their hand, or being nestled in just the right spot to have tranquility while still being close to the action.
A quick and easy check-in at your little getaway is always standard, along with blazing fast wifi and friendly hosts.
Whether you’re staying in something as small as a guest house or as large as a full bed & breakfast, you’ll always get that personal touch that makes you feel like part of the family.
If you happen to be a fan of staying in a Victorian home or partial to a Victorian bed & breakfast, you’re in luck. New York features many of these cozy spots
At a New York bed & breakfast, expect the best when it comes to amenities. Free wifi is a given these days, and your b&b will come equipped so you’ll always be connected (if you want to be). Free parking is clutch, especially when you’re staying in one of the most densely populated states in the country. B&B’s pride themselves on hospitality and taking care of you, and taking the stress out of your vacation with free cancellation and free parking is just the start of the care you can expect from your hosts.
The guest rooms at a New York b&b are styled in almost every fashion imaginable. Whether you’re into cozy & quaint, or modern & sleek, there’s a B&B that’ll fit your taste. Most of the rooms come equipped with oversized tubs to soak after a long day, as well as incredibly comfortable beds that’ll be pretty hard to get out of in the morning.
Complimentary breakfast (usually homemade) is not a bad way to start the morning. Many of the innkeepers use locally sourced ingredients to cook up a mouth watering meal that’ll get your day started the right way.
If you’re visiting New York City, it goes without saying that you’ll be able to walk or take the subway to almost anywhere around the City. Everything is pretty much walking distance if you stay in a bed and breakfast around the sites you want to see the most.
If you’re staying in other places around the great state of New York, a car is most likely going to be necessary to get around. Renting a car is simple & easy these days.
Trying to hit multiple parks and sites around the state? Then you’ll definitely need a car as the desirable attractions can be spread pretty far apart.
