The fishing lakes of Reed and Cain (stocked) provide great opportunity to while away your mornings, though kayaking, canoeing and paddle boarding are also favorite pastimes. A little farther afield is the much larger Lake Whatcom with a boat launch within easy driving distance and has great fishing and boating activities. Walking and hiking trails abound in this beautiful area. From short walks nearby to the more strenuous but also more rewarding Alger Alps Trail. You can find a new hike every day if you wish and return to this fabulous home. And mountain activities are just up the highway. Mt Baker is a national treasure all year long - fantastic hiking, snow activities and sightseeing are not to be missed. Gather everyone in the second floor great room where comfortable seating tempts you to relax and unwind. The cathedral ceiling contributes to the feeling of openness that continues throughout. Large windows show the moving branches and leaves of the trees that are all around the house. So, even though you are in a neighborhood you feel like you are in the forest! On the first floor is a tv and games room where you can have a rousing tournament of foosball or cuddle up in one of the two huge sack chairs. They are great for tv watching, reading or a well-earned nap! There are two queen bedrooms on the main floor with a luxurious bathroom between them. The upstair's bedroom has two twin beds. And the primary suite has a four poster bed, seating area, beautiful ensuite with a walk in shower, and stand alone bathtub to luxuriate in after a rejuvenating day in nature. The large open kitchen invites the chefs among you to create wonderful dishes while others can gather on the island bar stools. Share stories of the days adventure as you prepare and serve the meals at the family sized dining table. A large sectional in the living area provides comfortable seating for all, or for those that want a little space, there are two chairs by the window, perfect for reading while you have your morning coffee. The home is named for the mountain that the home is nestled at the base of - lovingly nicknamed the Alger Alps. :) Glenhaven Lakes is a small residential community in Washington, nestled in the low lying hills of Alger Mountain and the Chuckanut Ridge. Situated half-way between Bellingham and Burlington on the I-5 corridor, Glenhaven Lakes is truly a Jewel of the Northwest. Home to eagles, deer, geese, and ravens, this excellent location is perfect for heading out on your next adventure. It's close to many different recreational areas and everything the Northwest has to offer. Less than an hour and a half to Mt Baker Ski Area and the Mt Baker National Forest. About 15 minutes to Galbraith Mountain Biking Trails: Over 50 miles of singletrack that winds through over 3000 acres overlooking the city and Bellingham Bay. Hiking trails abound - the closer ones are the Alger Alps Trail, Lookout Mountain Forest Preserve. There's fishing in nearby Cain Lake with a boat launch for non-motorized boats - it's fantastic for kayaking, too. Nearby Lake Whatcom is large and beautiful! There is great hiking, biking and boating in the area and a few of the trails are within walking distance of the house. Though we suggest that you plan on driving to the area attractions of Galbraith Mountain, Lookout Mountain, Lake Whatcom, and beyond to Mt Baker National Forest and Mt Baker Ski Area. The home is within the Glenhaven Lakes Community. Access to the facilities in the community are available to residents only. There are few services in the area so we suggest picking up groceries prior to leaving the I5 . If you prefer to have your groceries or something special in the house upon your arrival guests may order concierge service as a separate amenity from this booking by going to Whatcom Concierge on the web. Other services and amenities are available as well, including during stay housekeeping, and a personal chef service (when available)!
