About The Property

Relax in the sun on the front deck with this beautiful west-facing view. Or curl up in front of the fireplace and rejuvenate. This house and Lummi Island are perfect for relaxing and refreshing. Few services and few reasons to leave except communing with nature, fresh air and venturing to the beach. Enjoy stunning sunsets from the deck, living space and master bedroom of this family home. Walk across the street to enjoy the beach; there are driftwood logs for sitting, and shallow water for wading. You will spend your time between the house, the beach and the water. The 180 degree views are of the Salish Sea, Orcas Island, the Canadian Gulf Islands and the Canadian mountains. You will never tire of this magnificent view. This is what memories are made of! The Lummi Stugan is the family cabin built in the 1970s by Scandinavian immigrants Enar and Helen Magnuson. The interior space has been newly remodeled to be a light, open and welcoming vacation rental. The decor combines a beachy theme with Scandinavian artifacts and whimsy. Everything you need is on one level - 2 bedrooms, bathroom (with combination bathtub/shower,) and open living area. The gas fireplace in the living room, warms and delights and is easy to use with a click of a button. The Stugan is perfect for a romantic getaway - wake up to the water lapping on the beach nearby and watch the sunset from the bed! Play games at the table or on the front lawn - walk or bike the island loop - or spend hours discovering the beach across the street. When you are ready to slow things down you can relax on the couch or reclining chairs to take in the view or watch your favorite streaming service on the tv. The front deck is large and is waiting for you to unwind with your favorite beverage. Watch the coming and goings on the idyllic roadway, people will wave as they walk or bike by! When it's time to eat, you can prepare a feast on the gas barbecue. The vaulted ceiling and exposed beams open up the space and are unencumbered throughout the home giving it the sense of a loft; only the bathroom is completely closed off from the rest of the space. The tops of the walls are decorated with traditional and colorful Scandinavian decor. See the photos showing the interior walls. Bring your kayaks or row boat and put in across the street - easy access, and nearby! The weather and wind conditions change frequently so be aware and stay safe! The Lummi Stugan is a two story home. The first level houses the garage, family area and more bedrooms. This area is NOT available to guests and will NOT be in use while guests are in the home. You can be confident that you have the place to yourself! As a professionally managed property you will receive top notch service and communication. Lummi Island Concierge has a team ready to assist you before and during your stay. We offer superior pre-stay information and services to ensure your vacation will be the best it can be! Lummi Island is a special place - time seems to slow down when you cross from the mainland on the Whatcom Chief. Expect relaxation and rejuvenation. The North End of the island has a loop road that is open to vistas of the mainland, the Salish Sea, and the islands beyond. You can travel the loop by foot, bike or by car - take your time and enjoy every turn. There are a number of preserves on the island which offer short nature hikes, or a hike up the side of the mountain to reach a vista point that has amazing views to the south of the San Juan Islands - a must do! Lummi Island boasts the Beach Store Cafe, usually open Wednesday through Sunday, the Willows Inn which you must reserve in advance, and the Islander Store which is the hub of the island, a general store with a collection of artists items next door and the Saturday market from Memorial Day through Labor Day. There are also farm and flower stands around the island and you can usually buy fresh eggs along the roadside. Lummi Island is home to a variety of artists who are happy to open their studios, mostly by appointment. Check out our island guide prior to your arrival. A trip on the Whatcom Chief Ferry is required to get to the Lane House. The ferry is operated by Whatcom County, and runs minimally every hour between 6.40am and midnight. Round trip fare is $14 for the vehicle and driver and $8 per passenger or for walk-ons. Fare is collected during the run to the island by the purser who will come to your vehicle to collect - credit or debit card only, no cash is accepted. Walk, bike or drive to the Lummi Stugan from the ferry dock and 'downtown' Lummi Island. We are approximately 3.5 miles from this area of the island. 'Downtown Lummi Island' consists of The Islander - general store, coffee and pastries, wine, beer and alcohol. Also attached is Sisters Gallery which highlights Island Crafters and Artisans. The Island Library has books and movies, of course but also an island history section. The Island Post Office is a full service post office with limited hours, and the Beach Store Cafe has great pizza and specials every weekend. There are few services on the island so we suggest picking up groceries in Bellingham or Ferndale prior to coming out to the island. If you prefer to have your groceries or something special in the house upon your arrival. Guests may order concierge service as a separate amenity from this booking by going to Lummi Island Concierge on the web. Other services and amenities are available as well, including during stay housekeeping, and a personal chef service! Once you book the Lummi Stugan, we will send you all the information you need to plan and have a great stay. A Rental Agreement regarding the home is required to be signed by the guest on the booking before the cancellation period ends. The agreement will be sent to you through the booking platform upon booking.
