The Historic Daniel Rust House in Coventry, CT was established in 1800 by the Rose family as a place to rest and refresh yourself before undertaking the remainder of your journey. We strive to continue this tradition today. Our B&B are located within ten minutes of the University of Connecticut and Interstate 84 and are situated on two beautifully landscaped acres amidst established perennial gardens and fruit trees. Our bed-and-breakfast has all modern amenities including queen-sized canopy beds, private baths and fireplaces. This Connecticut bed-and-breakfast provides several common rooms. The cooking hearth is the center of attraction in the tavern room. The Stone Room is an inviting place to read a good book, linger on the covered porch overlooking the garden, or you may want to take a stroll around the yard and enjoy the perennial flower beds and herb garden.

Our bed & breakfast is five minutes to the south entrance of Zion National Park and three minutes to Springdale. It has been newly renovated and updated with new furniture and amenities, such as flooring, tub and showers, vanities, bedding and linens, Wi-Fi, flat screen TVs with Roku TV apps, towels and décor. Usually mustard, ketchup, hot sauce, canola oil, regular coffee, and soy sauce are in the refrigerator. There is a 24 inch Amazon Fire TV in the kitchen. On the main level you will find the kitchen and living room, each with a sliding door opening onto the upper deck; master bedroom and bath suite with a door opening directly out onto the upper deck; as well as a second bedroom with a queen bed and another full bathroom. On the lower level is another large living room with 2 sleeper sofas, a bedroom with one twin bed and one double bed, and a full bathroom. The 55 inch Samsung TV is in the lower level living room. Also on the lower lever is the washer and dryer (laundry detergent provided). From the sliding doors on the lower level, you will exit onto the lower patio level with an outdoor eating area protected from the rain. The garage has been converted into a game room with a pool table and a ping pong table. Don't worry, there is still plenty of off road parking in the driveway in front of the garage and a secondary parking area at the side of the property. There is a Level 2 Electric Vehicle charging station in the garage, available for your use. (Dock, water slide, swimming, kayaks, rowboat, canoe, and stand up paddle boards are available during the appropriate seasons only. The game room is unheated. ) Guests will have access to the entire house, except for one or two small locked supply closets. We love our area in every season of the year. Fall brings beautiful leaves and great hiking and mountain biking, or ride the Airline Trail. Winter is a peaceful quiet time here, with hiking, skating, cross-country skiing, and ice fishing. Spring means beautiful flowers, pleasant temperatures, more hiking and biking, and a return to boating. And I guess we don't need to tell you how beautiful summer is, and how much there is to do here. We're eager to hear from our guests, both about anything they may need and any ideas they have for improving the property. We may be able to help you with anything from finding babysitting to suggestions for activities to finding a mountain biking guide. We are in the middle of a quiet friendly neighborhood. Spellman Point Road is a dead end road, so there is not a lot of traffic. Just a 3 minute walk down Bay Road is a Middlesex Land Trust park with trails for walking and mountain biking. Five minute drive to either Stop & Shop or Big Y for grocery shopping. Eight minute drive to the large playground at Memorial School. Lots of cute shops along downtown Main Street. 6 minute drive to the Air Line Trail, a great bike or walking rail trail. We are right on Lake Pocotopaug, a beautiful body of water, providing boating and swimming opportunities. Across the lake from us is a town beach with a playground, and it is open to the public (although only residents can park there). We have a rowboat, kayaks and paddleboards for use by our guests, and a slide out on the water which kids will enjoy. On occasion the owners may also use the kayaks, paddle boards, rowboat or slide. Plenty of free parking. Approximately 1 mile walk to Middletown Area Transit bus stop. The owners of the house live in the adjacent property. We are always available by messaging for any questions or problems, and usually can come over in person if necessary. Like many lakes in CT, Lake Pocotopaug has had in the past problems with an overgrowth of blue-green algae, typically in the late summer. In spring 2020, East Hampton installed a bubbler system to prevent further algae blooms, and the town has also been actively addressing this problem with a combination of treatments, education and other mitigation efforts. This seems to be working well, and we haven't had an algae bloom in the last couple of summers, and water quality has been good. But we can't guarantee that there won't be an algae problem in the future. Should there happen to be an algae bloom causing the town beach to be closed for swimming during your stay at our property, we will offer you these options: 1. You may cancel your stay with no penalty. 2. You may keep your reservation but take a 20% rebate on the daily rate. Blue-green algae, also known as Cyanobacteria, can cause health effects on exposure, mainly if the water is swallowed, so it’s best for children not to swim if there is an algae bloom, and for adults to use their discretion. Some people with sensitive skin may have irritation from water exposure, but most people are able to continue to kayak, paddle board, etc. even during an algae bloom. If interested, check with your hosts about local baby-sitters, all kinds of biking expeditions, windsurfing and other local activities. Some amenities are only available in specific seasons, for example waterfront amenities are available throughout the summer. Only toilet paper in the toilets! NO "flushable wipes", paper towels, feminine products, etc. Ignoring this rule could cause you to lose days of your vacation, as the house is unusable if the sewer grinder pump fails.

We also include a welcome basket and a few little extras like spices, coffee, tea, napkins, tin foil, etc.  It is a short drive to downtown Mystic, Stonington, Westerly, the Coast Guard Academy, US Navy Sub Base, Pfizer, Electric Boat, General Dynamics, Connecticut College and Mitchell College, Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casinos, and we are conveniently located just moments from I-95 and I-395.  The Connecticut Wine Trail is near our home as well as the Mystic Indoor pickleball/tennis club.  The unit includes a private bathroom with washer and dryer, and toiletries to make your visit perfect. We provide a variety of towels and facecloths for your use. The sitting area has a large TV with streaming channels and an electric fireplace to take away an evening chill.  The sofa converts into a full size bed with a comfortable memory foam mattress. The unit has a large bedroom with a queen bed and a futon, accommodating 3 guests. Additional guests can sleep on the sofa bed in the living room.   Bedding, pillows, and blankets are provided for every guest. Maximum capacity for the unit is 5 Adults/children. Across the street is a 400 acre nature preserve with miles of marked trails for hiking, biking, and cross country skiing. The space Our home is set back and can not be seen from the road. The apartment is on the right side of the house with a private entrance and deck. Look for sign 103A in front of the house.   It is a wooded acre of land in Old Mystic that is close to everything this area has to offer. The apartment is a completely self-contained private space for your exclusive use. It is separated from the main house by a locked door.   Visitors may be able to hear us moving around, but typically we are quiet.    We have no children, but we do have a very gentle German Shepard. Adult pets are welcome if they are trained and well behaved.  No puppies please. There is a pet fee and a maximum of 2 pets. The Bedroom: A spacious bedroom with one queen bed and a futon. Fluffy pillows and blankets and linen provided. The Bathroom: The bathroom is located within the unit just outside of the kitchen, with a shower, washer and dryer. The Sitting Room: There is one chair and a full size couch,  as well as a large TV with many streaming options. There is a functioning electric fireplace. Dining Area: There is a dining table in the kitchen, for you to enjoy your own cooking, order in, or grab a quick breakfast. There is also outdoor seating on the porch  with a grill for cooking outdoors. The Property: Our land is surrounded by rock walls and we are across the street from the Avery Nature Preserve. We are a short walk from hiking trails, horses and chickens.  We have corn hole, croquet, and bocce games available. Heating and Cooling: The thermostat for the heat and central air are in the guest area. There are also ceiling fans in every room. Our goal as your host is to anticipate everything you will need for a comfortable, fun stay - but if we forgot something, please do not hesitate to ask! Guest access We are located behind another home and can not be seen from the street. It is a long driveway with parking on the left or right side before you come to the car port and garage area. Do not park in front of the garage. Entrance to the guest space requires parking and then walking in front of the house on a sidewalk and up a few stairs. Look  for the 103A sign.  A car is a must to get around the area - Uber and Lyft are available, as are food delivery services. Other things to note The Details: A selection of pillows is provided for your comfort, and the rooms have shades and curtains to keep the light to a minimum while you are sleeping. Linens for bed and bath are 100% cotton. All areas are disinfected *thoroughly* between guests, and all bedding and pillows are fresh and clean for each stay.
