Nakukui Ekolu at Kahakai Estates - The Piece of Mind RetreatDo you need a vacation?  Not just a trip, but an actual vacation?  That is what you’ll find at the Piece of Mind Retreat.  If you wanted to, you could spend your entire vacation in this home - and enjoy every minute of it.  Any trip to Hawaii is about being outside - and that is what is the Piece of Mind Retreat is all about.  It’s like moving into your own private resort.  Start the day with a cup of coffee from the ocean view lanai.  Wander the lush tropical garden and help yourself to whatever fruit is ripe at the moment - it could be bananas, mangos or lilikoi (passionfruit).  Relax by your private pool in a lounge chair, or splash in the arched fountains. The Shores at Waikoloa 124

Our island home is located in a particularly picturesque and peaceful place. It is far enough away from the pool to be quiet yet convenient, in front of our lanai is a waterfall and the lagoon, vibrant flowers, green lawns that are well maintained and in the mornings and evening the sweet song of the saffron warblers are so happy. The lanai is a generous 600 square feet, and the Brown Jordan furniture makes a great place to relax. We chose 20' porcelain tile for durability in all the wet areas of the bathrooms and kitchen. The bathrooms and kitchen have all new tile, quartz counter tops, sinks and faucets. The primary bath features a very high end rain head and hand held shower head in the walk in shower. In the living areas and bedrooms we wanted a warm environment and put in antiqued bamboo flooring. Being distressed makes it have lots of character. The Shores at Waikoloa Beach Resort, an upscale condominium complex only 20 minutes north of the airport.  The Shores provides a resort experience with a short walk to one of the Big Island’s best white sands beaches with a good surf break, restaurants, and shopping. E komo mai – welcome - to our Big Island home in Kulalani, within the up-scale Mauna Lani Resort on the spectacular Kohala Coast.   We hope you enjoy the privacy and serenity as much as we do. Find all the comforts of home including air-conditioning (set to not go below a comfortable 72 degrees), a fully-furnished gourmet kitchen and Viking BBQ on the lanai to name a few. There is a 70” UHD television with Bose surround system in the living room, and televisions in each bedroom. The very spacious primary bedroom has a king bed, sitting/office area, large lanai, walk-in shower and jacuzzi tub.  The guest bedroom has an en suite bathroom and XL twin beds that can be made into another king upon request and for a fee. There is an additional powder room downstairs. Our home is perfectly situated to capture the cooling trade winds as you enjoy expansive views of the 5th hole on the Francis H. Brown North Course and all the way to Hualalai volcano, 35 miles away, above Kona.  The upstairs and downstairs lanais enjoy the beautiful and mild morning sun so that you can comfortably dine indoors or outdoors any time of day. For your convenience, there is a washer and dryer.  We have left you beach towels and chairs but as our guest you are able to use the private Mauna Lani Beach Club where lounge chairs are provided and other fun items available.  There is a beautiful sandy beach and excellent snorkeling.  Stand up paddle boards, anyone? There are lots of dining options nearby, or walk to the gourmet grocery store at the Shops at Mauna Lani. From Kulalani at Mauna Lani, you are a 5-minute drive to some of the most spectacular beaches in the world, including Hapuna and Mauna Kea.  But you may want to just relax at Kulalani.  We enjoy one of the most beautiful common areas anywhere.  Set in a lush tropical setting are 2 pools:  an adult lap pool and an ohana (family) pool.  There are outdoor spas near each pool.  In addition, both pools have restrooms and showers. In the adult pool area there is a very complete, air-conditioned fitness center. Besides two championship golf courses, Mauna Lani is a great place to explore. The resort is filled with ancient Hawaiian cultural sites.  Kulalani is a short walk to the Puako Petroglyph field, one of the largest in Hawaii.  The coastline and fishponds next to the Beach Club are a photographer’s dream. Kulalani is a quiet gated community, near the center of the resort area and is walking distance to the petroglyph fields near Puako beach. Other amenities within the resort can be easily accessed by car. Guests staying in Kulalani get access to the community’s recreation complex, which is the largest complex in the Mauna Lani Resort. The complex is shared with the neighboring KaMilo community, and combining their resources allowed them to build this into one of the best recreation complexes with the most amenities in the Mauna Lani resort. There is a large free-form ohana (family) pool surrounded by plenty of seating and lovely gardens. There is a shallow children’s wading pool attached to this pool for families with young children. Additionally, there is a quiet lap pool for adult use only. Overlooking the lap pool and the surrounding tropical gardens is the fitness building. Kanaloa at Keauhou 1501 is a convenient 1st floor unit (but there still are stairs to navigate) with everything remodeled except the primary bathroom.   April Special, $265/n++ The unit offers central air-conditioning as well as ceiling fans for guests’ comfort but lots of windows providing light in all living areas.   The modern kitchen is light and airy and completely equipped for a novice or experienced cook. The living room has a large TV and a comfortable, large sectional couch.  Each bedroom has a King bed, TV, and the unit sleeps 4 guests comfortably.  The unit as both an eating bar and dining area although you will probably be doing more entertaining and eating on the shady lanai, enjoying the views. One of the nicest things about this unit is the lanai, which faces North and is shady and cool all day long. It offers great views of the pounding ocean as well as the entertaining views from behind the tee box of an entire par three hole of the adjacent golf course. This is the best of both worlds!  Many lanais with wonderful ocean view are often too sunny & hot to enjoy. Imagine a warm, welcoming place where families and friends can feel a sense of peace, and share in the wonderment of seeing the blue Pacific Ocean stretch out, uninterrupted, from south to west to north. The pictures don’t lie: you have probably never been in a private home with views like these, and they are yours to enjoy from the pool, the spa, the den, both dining areas, the bedrooms, the lanais… you get the idea. Lots of glass here: it’s floor to ceiling in most of the house. Connoisseurs of eye candy, fanatics for light and space, welcome! You’re home.      The property is surrounded by gorgeous tropical vegetation (see photos), lovingly tended since 1992 by one of the Big Island’s most renowned landscapers, Dwayne Richmond. There aren’t many better ways to start a day than having your coffee on one of the garden benches, surrounded by Dwayne’s handiwork. (The vegetation isn’t just pleasing to the eye; it also provides privacy, and a lot of it.) If it’s raining, or if you just want a different perspective, sip your java while taking in the amazing treehouse view from the upstairs lanais- it’s awesome.      To minimize GMH’s carbon footprint, most of our electricity comes from the PV panels on the roof. The common area of the house is basically one big, open room, cooled by breeze or AC, which looks out on the Pacific. Here, you and your family and friends feel connected to the ocean and the sky, and to each other.      The pool (70 feet long) and spa both face the ocean: same incredible view you have from the inside, only now there’s sky over your head. Sitting in the spa with loved ones, beverage in hand, watching the sun drop into the Pacific… don’t be surprised if you get a little teary. I know I do.      Convenience comes with the territory at GMH. Keauhou Shopping Center, with its supermarket, drug store, good restaurants, shops, and urgent care clinic is four minutes away. It’s 15 minutes to the town of Kailua-Kona, with its many attractions. Great snorkeling and surfing lessons are six minutes away at Kahalu’u Beach Park. It’s nine minutes to beautiful La’aloa (White Sands) Beach. Various famous coffee plantations are 20 minutes away. Excellent walking (with spectacular views, of course) is right outside the front door on the immaculate sidewalks and streets of gorgeous Keauhou Estates.      Finally, for those of you who plan to use GMH as a home base for longer excursions, your host would like to provide you with some templates for full-day and half-day trips from the house.
