One of the first things that guests notice about the White Doe Inn is the gorgeous white building: This grand three-story Queen Anne style house has more than 110 years of history woven through its walls. In fact, it’s even listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is especially noted for its historic and architectural significance!
An authentic atmosphere from the 1900s greets guests from the moment that they step inside, from the elegant curving staircase to the multi-hued stained windows, classical furniture, and a welcoming den. The White Doe’s eight rooms are carefully decorated with family heirlooms, eye-catching antiques, and amenities such as spa tubs and terraces.
We can’t talk about the White Doe Inn without mentioning its pièce de résistance: the Garden Bedchamber. True to its name, this suite looks out into a brick-lined private garden and features a magnificent canopied king-size bed, crackling gas log fireplace, and luxurious extras such as plush bathrobes. Although it’s often booked for honeymoons and anniversaries, the Garden suite is perfect for all travelers – guests can even bring their furry friends for a small fee!
Other fantastic options include the romantic Virginia Dare Bedchamber for which the Inn is named after, or the ambient Garret Bedchamber, featuring accents of gray and a jetted tub.
Lovebirds planning their wedding, vowel renewal, or elopement will love the White Doe Inn: the bed and breakfast has two professional Wedding Coordinators to seamlessly plan your special day and to take care of every detail. The Inn can also be rented out to accommodate an entire wedding party.
The innkeeper Pam Gutlon and owners Bebe & Bob Woody, want to make sure that every guest feels like family when they’re at the White Doe Inn. That’s why there are fresh and complimentary homemade pastries waiting for guests every afternoon, along with coffee, tea, and nostalgic soda — along with seasonal favorites, like lemonade in the summer and hot cider in the winter. They are also excited that 2020 marks the year of their 25th Anniversary and they are celebrating!
In the morning, guests can sit on the beautiful crape myrtle-lined veranda and indulge in a complimentary breakfast — made from the freshest herbs and produce from the Inn’s own gardens — before setting out to explore the town.
Manteo, located on the Outer Banks, is rich in history and local attractions. One of the most popular spots is the Manteo waterfront, where travelers can marvel at the Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse or see a real-life replica ship at the Roanoke Island Festival Park. Further up the Outer Banks, you can explore (and even sand-board!) on the sand dunes at the 426-acre Jockey’s Ridge park; see the historical Wright Brothers National Memorial; climb the tallest brick lighthouse at Cape Hatteras; or go back to July 1587 and learn about the first attempted settlement by watching the Lost Colony outdoor drama.
Don’t miss the natural beauty, historical significance, and the unmistakable charm of coastal North Carolina — it’s all accessible while you’re a guest at the White Doe Inn.
