Sometimes, you just need a relaxing weekend to get away from it all. How does soaking away your worries in a jetted tub, sipping bubbly while stargazing on the balcony, and cuddling up near a wood-burning fireplace sound?
If you think this sounds like a dream, then you haven’t been to Abbey’s Lantern Hill Inn yet!
This Ledyard-based bed and breakfast, set within six acres of picturesque woodlands, is the epitome of stylish yet down to earth hospitality. Abbey’s Lantern Hill is also a boutique BnB in every sense of the word: it has six rooms that are individually decorated based on certain themes. Will you pick the romantic Mystic, the Native American-inspired Southwest, the ultra luxe Cadillac, the preppy Country, the New England coast-styled Downeast, or the simple yet sweet Lucy?
If you want to feel at home with complete privacy, there is also a separate cottage. This spacious abode has a queen bed, comfortable amenities, and a large bathroom. The Cottage is the perfect accommodation if you’re traveling with your four-legged friend, as it’s pet-friendly and features a fenced-in courtyard.
True to its name, the Cadillac suite is another guest favorite thanks to its plush bed, a 2-person jetted soaking tub, and touches of tropical greens. However, the real star is the sprawling outdoor deck with sun chairs and a lattice fence for the ultimate in privacy.
Since we’re in New England, it would be a shame not to mention the Downeast suite. This nautical meets preppy cool style suite features everything a New Englander would love, from the beautiful oak hardwood flooring, to a skylight for stargazing, and even a cozy wood-burning fireplace for those chilly nights. Don’t miss the rustic storefront sign in this suite, which is a real sign from the early 1900s that was acquired from nearby New London.
Abbey’s Lantern Hill is fantastic for any season, but there’s one special to keep an eye on: during February every year, the Inn has a complimentary package called “February Is For Lovers!” where, during the entire month, guests who stay a minimum of two nights will be given a bottle of champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, and a red rose. How’s that for romance?
Thanks to its location in southeast Connecticut, Abbey’s Lantern Hill Inn is tucked away in the woods yet close to exciting nearby attractions. For some of the most authentic cider, head over to BF Clyde’s Cider Mill. In addition to its fresh and crisp cider, Clyde’s is also the oldest steam-powered apple cider mill in the country and a National Historic Landmark. Likewise, the world-class Mohegan Sun casino is only a 20-minute drive from the Inn. Try your luck at one of the three casinos, listen to a concert in the arena, dine at one of the 46 restaurants, or even hit a hole-in-one at the 18-hole golf course.
There are plenty of day trips from the Inn: Mystic, a charming waterfront town, is only a 20-minute drive, while the historical port city of New London is just 30 minutes away. In the summer, Dubois Beach in nearby Stonington is the perfect spot to prop up your beach umbrella, lay out a towel, and enjoy the warm sun.
No matter the season, Abbey’s Lantern Hill Inn is sure to offer travelers a unique, comfortable, and conveniently located boutique lodging option that is sure to make your visit to the area more memorable.
