At that time, a fort was built called  Fort Dummer to afford protection to the settlers and their families.  Sadly, even after the war ended, additional battles would continue  between the Indians and the settlers. Eventually, the area started to  calm and the town of Brattleboro truly took shape. It was home to the first store in the state of Vermont. The arrival of the railroad helped the region thrive even more.
