No matter what kind of vacation or getaway you’re trying to have, Bed and Breakfasts in New Mexico will deliver big time. As you might expect in such a funky & new destination, New Mexico Bed and Breakfast look a little bit different than other b&b spots in more traditional places around the country. Incredible pueblo style homes will welcome you in from the hot desert, and offer incredible amenities that match any b&b you might have seen before.
From Sante Fe to Taos to Albuquerque, New Mexico has tons of sights and adventures to do and see. The food scene is absolutely delicious, featuring mouthwatering Southwestern fare and Mexican dishes (who doesn’t love Mexican) that’ll have you coming back again and again. The state has loads of history and fantastic National Parks to explore.
Visit New Mexico and see why it’s one of the hottest new travel destinations in the country!
New Mexico’s complex history is deeply intertwined with both Mexico and with Texas. The United States acquired NM as a result of the Mexican War in 1848, and the rest of it in the 1853 Gadsden Purchase. It officially became a state in 1912.
There is a large amount of Native American history that is deeply rooted in New Mexico. This is reflected in the buildings & artifacts scattered throughout the state, as well as the numerous Indian casinos that operate today.
It’s wonderful to explore New Mexico and get a taste of how diverse and eclectic the history of the country is, compared to other locations like New England, the South, or the West.
TripAdvisor has some wonderful recommendations when it comes to getting the full New Mexico experience. The Taos Pueblo is a must-see if you’re into the desert style architecture that the Southwest is known for. The Rio Grande Gorge Bridge also goes through Taos and is as breathtaking as it is scary (if you’re not into heights!) The Low Road from Sante Fe is also rich with activities ranging from mountain climbing to petting friendly llamas.
Check out the art galleries around New Mexico and discover why so many art geeks flock to the state for inspiration and fresh ideas. Albuquerque is home to many of the best eats & drinks around New Mexico, and can you really beat hot Mexican food cooked with generations old recipes?
New Mexico has some stunning landscape and natural features that draw in tourists from far & wide. Probably the most famous would be the Carlsbad Caverns, one of the largest cave systems on the planet. You might remember the incredible stalactites (they look like icicles) from your 3rd grade geography class.
The Rio Grande Gorge is an amazing natural sanctuary that runs about 50 miles long and around 800 feet deep. Looking down on it is similar to looking down on the Grand Canyon. The wonder of Earth is on full display at the Rio Grande.
Visit Shiprock, which resembles a ship that is drifting along the ocean. It’s actually a stopper that plugs a volcano. Super cool!
Do not miss out on driving the Low Road from Sante Fe to Taos. It'll give you a glimpse of the wonder of New Mexico while also allowing you to stop and do various fun excursions like hanging out with a llama!
The Land of Enchantment is rich with things to do and has something for any interest or hobby. If you’re staying in a casita (little house) in the Historic District, you’ll be a short walk from New Mexico’s famous art scene & cool little studios selling funky Native American themed art. From there you might stumble on the most delicious Mexican you’ve ever had, and the rest is up to you!
There are numerous museums throughout the state that’ll capture your imagination and bring you back to a simpler place in time. If you’re into outdoor activity, check out White Sands National Park. It is stunning to see the rare white gypsum sand dunes and know that you’re hundreds of miles from the nearest beach.
Sante Fe Plaza is a great spot to relax, sip a glass of wine, and enjoy the slower pace of New Mexico!
Believe it or not, New Mexico is actually home to some dazzling weather no matter what type of year you’re visiting. The summers can often get extremely hot due to the desert climate, and the winters can get chilly.
It really depends on whether you’re visiting northern New Mexico or southern NM. Since the temperatures can vary greatly between the day & the night, it’s best to bring a variety of layers that you can stack depending on how hot or how cool it is outside.
New Mexico has some of the most delicious food in the entire country! Beef & chicken enchiladas, burritos, huevos rancheros, tacos...is your mouth watering yet?
While obviously favoring traditional Mexican dishes that rival any joint in Mexico, New Mexico also has options for any type of cuisine you’re trying to consume. Pizzas, italian, anything you’re craving is on offer, but the Mexican really steals the show.
Visit High Noon Restaurant and Saloon in Albuquerque for sensational steaks, enchiladas, and bold margaritas. Housed in an adobe style building, this is a meal that you’ll never forget. Visit Plaza Cafe Southside for delicious pizzas (yes pizzas!) in Sante Fe, or El Modelo Mexican Foods in Albuquerque for authentic Mexican.
There are so many options you’ll be spoiled when trying to pick your dining spot for the day.
There are tons of fantastic b&b options to choose from in NM, but the best bed and breakfast in New Mexico might have to be the Inn of the Turquoise Bear in Sante Fe. Sitting on an acre of incredible property complete with all of the modern amenities you can imagine, plus an extremely convenient location to Sante Fe Plaza with views of the Sangre de Cristo mountains, this is a property you won’t want to miss.
Another great property is Casa Escondida, consistently ranked as one of New Mexico’s top bed and breakfasts. Nestled on six acres of pristine land in Chimayo with views of the Jemez Mountains, this is a perfect spot for a romantic vacation or even elopement!
New Mexico is full of wonderful bed & breakfasts so take some time to research which one fits in with your dream New Mexico vacation!
Rest easy knowing that when you book a bed and breakfast in New Mexico, it’ll be loaded with modern amenities that’ll turn your stay into a desert oasis. Guest rooms feature private baths, a private entrance, fast wifi, and usually a kitchenette area for cooking up quick meals. Some of the more luxurious b&bs will even offer a kiva fireplace to keep warm on those cold desert nights.
One of the best parts of New Mexico b&b’s is their proximity to sites or attractions that are frequently visited. Within walking distance you might find the best local eateries or a wondrous piece of history. Your friendly innkeepers will be happy to set up tours or anything you’re trying to do while you’re visiting, which is just another perk of staying in a bed and breakfast.
If accessibility is an issue, let your innkeeper or b&b know and they’ll make special accommodations for your party.
Nothing compares to experiencing New Mexico while you stay in an authentic bed and breakfast. From charming innkeepers with unmatched local knowledge to amazing little getaways in Taos or Chimayo, you never know what memories you might make when you stay at one of these enchanting little getaways.
Visiting the historic district of Sante Fe or the incredible adobe buildings in Taos are just two highlights you might have when you visit NM.
Your friendly innkeepers will guide you and help craft an unforgettable experience based on the kind of vacation you’re trying to have.
Don’t miss the opportunity to stay at an enchanting New Mexico b&b.
New Mexico is definitely a driving type vacation since the state is fairly spread out apart from the Albuquerque metro area. Getting around the state is far easier with a car than any other method of travel.
For the adventurous, there are buses and trains that run through the state. Amtrak has a northern line called the Southwest Chief, which runs stops in Gallup, Grants, Albuquerque, Lamy, and Raton. That might be a good option if you’re looking to kick back and see some smaller towns which often don’t get the love they deserve!
Albuquerque International (ABQ) is the primary airport in the state, although Sante Fe also has a regional airport (SAF).
