This beautiful National Register Victorian house (formerly known as The Mead House) was built in 1882 and became the home of Dr. Jerry Morris Hyde and the Hyde Family descendants for almost 90 years. Originally built by Dr. I. P. Primrose for his daughter Sarah and her new husband, it was sold to Dr. Hyde in 1890. The two doctors were friends, neighbors and also partners in several Nelsonville real estate ventures. When the last Hyde descendant passed away in 1977, the house became a succession of homes, rentals and student housing, until it was rescued and beautifully restored as a Bed & Breakfast by Michael and Sheila Mark in 2006. In 2009 long-time Bed and Breakfast entrepreneur and history lover Sue Maxwell became owner. Sue carried own the B&B tradition until 2016. Sue owns the Primrose Bed & Breakfast across the street. Carrying on Sue's tradition we hope you enjoy being able to “Sleep with History” at the Hyde House in Nelsonville! The Hyde House estate has a large wrap around front porch with plenty of sitting, lots of space for relaxing.
