The Mason House Bed & Breakfast Inn in historic Bentonsport, Iowa, is nestled on the banks of the beautiful Des Moines River. (Bentonsport is one of the Van Buren County villages that were among Iowa’s very first settlements.) The Mason House Inn is a fine bed and breakfast in the heart of the Midwest. Today, the tradition continues with your hosts, the Hansons. The Mason House was built in 1846 to serve steamboat travelers going from St. Louis to Des Moines. It was constructed by Mormon craftsmen who stayed in Bentonsport three years while making their famous trek to Utah. Travelers received quality hosting then, and that tradition continues today. In 1989 the inn underwent extensive refurbishing. This included remodeling an old railroad station and connecting it to the Mason House, providing for ground level accommodations with separate entrances, king size beds, and private baths. Guests are invited to use every room ~ and enjoy! In 2006, a caboose was added to the property and is now a Cottage. It has a full kitchen, bathroom with shower, a queen bed, a TV in the bedroom, and a private porch facing the river. Perfect for a romantic getaway! There’s a cookie jar in every room. Each of the nine guestrooms has a private bath with shower. Full Country Breakfast at the hour of your choice is served in the Main House dining room. Private Romantic Cottage Available. Murder Mystery Weekends. Ghost hunting classes. Free Wi-Fi is available in all rooms. Owners have cats on the premises. Special dietary concerns can be accommodated, please mention at the time you make your reservation. There are many antique and craft shops near the inn. The village has a variety of both, including a pottery and blacksmith shop. Shops in Bentonsport are open April through November. Chuck and Joy will be glad to direct you to other activities within an hour’s drive. The wild night-life in Bentonsport consists mainly of owls, bald eagles, and frogs, along the lazy Des Moines River. However, the Hansons would be happy to recommend several nice restaurants within a few miles. The Mason House is excellent for small retreats, family reunions and business seminars (24 maximum). Come see us at the Mason House Inn, the oldest steamboat hotel on the Des Moines River.

Garth Woodside Mansion Bed & Breakfast Inn is located in the charmed town, often hailed as "America's Hometown", Hannibal, Missouri. Here you will be treated as friends while you enjoy romantic surroundings and attention to detail. The inn offers large smoke-free guest rooms and suites in the mansion, each elegantly appointed with Victorian antiques, all with a private bath. Each room has a hypo-allergenic feather-bed. We have carefully selected fabrics, materials, and textures to blend with one of the finest 19th century furniture collections in the Midwest. Charming amenities include custom made bath soaps of bayberry and unscented oatmeal. In such peaceful surroundings, 20th century troubles seem to float away. The 40 acre estate also features 3 cottages, each in a private building. You will find the mansion a place to slow down, where you will experience a time when life held more journeys and less destination. This private, Victorian estate is nestled on 36 acres of Rolling Meadows, tall woodlands, and flowered gardens. A must stop, the inn focuses on the warmth and simple beauty provided by nature. Days can be spent on the veranda admiring the flight of a hummingbird. Or walk the grounds; curl up with a book by the pond, or sit on the balcony catching a cool breeze. The inn has captured the spirit of adventure with Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn, Becky Thatcher, and Mark Twain's stories about life on the Mississippi River. So come see why it has been called the finest lodging in Hannibal and one of the "Top Ten Inns" in the Midwest. "I spent many nights with John and Helen Garth in their spacious, beautiful home," Mark Twain wrote to his wife, Olivia, in 1882. "We started getting ready for your visit over 100 years ago"...

**Just a quick note regarding Covid-19. Being immaculately clean is nothing new to us. We continue to do so with even more focus on common touch points so you'll probably see us disinfecting railings, doorknobs, light switches, etc. more than normal. Additionally, being such a large house, we're able to accommodate social distancing when necessary. For meals and evening drinks, we'll be able to space people throughout the parlor, the dining room, the library, the screened in porch, and we're even happy to offer in-room breakfast if that makes you feel more comfortable! Lastly, out of consideration for our guests, you'll see us wearing masks while preparing/serving food and drinks, as well as when interactions prohibit us from maintaining the recommended personal distance. Being a big house in a small town surrounded by loads of outdoor activities and no crowds, Aldrich Guest House and Galena are a perfect pairing for you to relax and take a breath of fresh air.
