The spring  attracted lots of people to the region, and the town was incorporated in  the early 1900s.

    South of the railroad tracks  was the town of Varina. It is named after a woman who used ‘Varina’ as  her pen name when writing letters to her future husband while fighting  in the Civil War. He went on to become the local postmaster and named  the post office after her. The name was soon adopted for the entire  town.

    The proximity and common industries in the towns eventually led to them merging as Fuquay Varina.
