About The Inn

The centerpiece of the quiet village of Hyde Park, Vermont, the historic Governor’s House is a bed and breakfast offering the quintessential New England holiday in the Green Mountains. Perfect for a Vermont honeymoon or romantic weekend getaway, this classic Vermont bed & breakfast is also ideal for family reunions, intimate weddings, or simply enjoying the fall foliage or sleigh rides in the scenic countryside. Our Jane Austen weekends are literary retreats which offer something for everyone in a lovely old mansion where Jane herself would surely have felt at home. And if you want to elope to a Vermont country inn, the Governor’s House is the picture-perfect setting and our elopement package includes everything you’ll need for a perfect wedding day. For modern comfort, we’ve added in-room high speed internet, cable TV, and VCR/DVD players, and to become an accessible romantic inn we have added a fully handicap-accessible room with a private porch and garden. Many original details have survived the century and the house has been restored and decorated to preserve the gracious elegance of an earlier time. You’ll find fresh flowers in your room and fresh Toll House cookies in the cookie jar. You’ll find cozy robes and lots of movies and even hot chocolate at bedtime. And you’ll always find a warm welcome. Charm and luxury abound inside this distinctive inn furnished with antiques, bedroom fireplaces, and a well-stocked library, but the Green Mountains also beckon, offering skiing, hiking, dogsledding, snowshoeing, fly fishing, and glider rides, to name only a few. Adjacent to the bike trail along the scenic Lamoille River which doubles in winter as part of the VAST trail, it’s an easy stop while biking or by snowmobile. Our tea room in the library offers a full English afternoon tea. Hyde Park is just nine miles from the world-class resort of Stowe with a multitude of restaurants, year-round outdoor activities, and cultural events. The Governor’s House in Hyde Park is worth the trip from anywhere, even the Twenty-First Century!
