In 2000, a local Sonoma winemaker approached former Four Sisters Inns President Shelley Post to discuss a piece of property he owned in town, just a block off the Sonoma Plaza. She agreed that the location seemed ideal for a small hotel, perfect for guests who would enjoy walking right out the door to the shops, restaurants and historic attractions such as the 1823 Mission San Francisco Solano. Construction of the Inn at Sonoma took place in 2002, with Shelley applying her innkeeper’s eye to all phases of development. She worked closely with California designer Shirley Jensen to create a warm and hospitable environment, in sync with the casual Sonoma wine country lifestyle. Their instincts were spot-on; from the moment it opened, Inn at Sonoma has been a favorite with visitors who appreciate special touches like the outdoor hot tub and fireplaces in every guest room. In 2013, a detached cottage on the property was completely remodeled adding eight guestrooms to the Inn at Sonoma. Rooms in the Vintner’s Cottage boast either one king or two queen beds, each with a fireplace, and four with jetted tubs.
