The Arbor House Bed & Breakfast of Black Mountain is being run by Innkeepers Theresa and Jim. They started in this endeavor by a chance of fate while they still lived in Northeast Ohio. Theresa comes from a family of self-employed entrepreneurs and although she went down the corporate IT path when it came to employment after college, she always dreamed she would be self-employed someday. Jim started out working in small businesses and ultimately found himself in the corporate sales world. Through a chance of fate in 2009, Jim had the opportunity to attend and graduate from culinary school. After Jim rapidly advanced from grill chef to sauté chef at a prestigious Cleveland area country club they decided to move to their favorite vacation state, North Carolina and ultimately open their own business (of some sort). While their first stop was in Charlotte, where Theresa quickly advanced into management for a Mooresville based, home improvement company, Jim gained more culinary experience by becoming a sous chef for a large Charlotte bed & breakfast/banquet center as well as a head chef for a well-known Charlotte area breakfast establishment. He also spent time as a fishmonger in South Charlotte. It was during this time they decided they would take all the skills they have acquired over their careers and put them to use at the Arbor House in Black Mountain NC. Theresa’s organizational skills honed from years of IT management combined with her passion for gardening coupled with Jim’s culinary skills and his sales & marketing background (and it helps he’s pretty good with a hammer too) led them to re-opening the Arbor House in the spring of 2015. Please come join them at the Arbor House and witness the splendor of Black Mountain NC and all she has to offer you.
