Portland Bed and Breakfast | Portland’s White House

Rarely does a convenient location come with such absolute luxuriant perfection. At Portland’s White House Bed & Breakfast, located in the North East Historic Irvington District of Portland, Oregon, there is an abundance of both.

Built in 1911 by wealthy timber baron Robert Lytle, the property was the most expensive home in the district. Recently purchased in 2018 by new owners Frank Groff and David Krause, the house was closed for a four-month renovation as they spared no expense in a total overhaul, right down to the plumbing and electrical systems.

Fashioned in Greek Revival style resplendent with 14 columns and a circular drive that surrounds the cheerful fountain, this 9-room palace looks well beyond the million-dollar renovation. Stately lawns and new landscaping fill the view of every window and beckon a barefoot stroll, or perhaps a book and a glass of wine in the shade.

Feel like stretching your legs with a morning walk? Take advantage of the proximity to the fine shops and restaurants within walking distance. The Lloyd Center, upscale boutiques, and several museums are just blocks away. If walking is not your thing, Uber and Lyft can have you on your way and at your destination in minutes.

The Inn

Portland’s White House’s restoration also included the Carriage House. The Main House has three 2nd floor guest rooms, two 1st floor guest rooms, a formal dining area, and the ballroom in the basement. The Carriage House has three rooms and boasts the same amenities, treats, and comforts found in the Main House. Capable of hosting up to 85 guests, the ballroom is spacious enough for a business or banquet event but intimate enough for a family reunion or birthday party.

Rooms are exquisitely appointed with the highest-quality linens, towels, and other niceties expected at such a beautiful property, including Molton Brown London bath & body products. Portland’s White House B&B is just one of several properties Frank and David have renovated, many of them having been featured in numerous magazines and newspapers, including the Los Angeles Times and HGTV.

Activities & Attractions

There is so much to do and see in the immediate vicinity as well as exciting day trips further afield. If you’re looking for the action, people-watching, and window shopping at a high-end mall, then the Lloyd Center is the place to start. There are a number of restaurants, bistros, microbreweries, and wine shops to satisfy any palette, all just a short drive away.

If you’ve come for the museums and gardens, you’ll have your pick to keep you busy. The Portland Art Museum is close by, as are the International Rose Test Gardens, Japanese Gardens, and Classical Chinese Gardens that no doubt are continually vying for visitors’ attention.

For more adventurous endeavors, a day trip to Mt. Hood, Mt. St. Helens, the Oregon Coast, and Columbia Gorge will leave you with a renewed sense of the region’s natural beauty. Because of Portland White House’s esteemed place in Oregon’s B&B industry, they have partnered with the #1 adventure tour operator in the state. Your comfort and experience are guaranteed with a knowledgeable tour guide and the latest SUV models available. They will even custom-design an itinerary so you get the most from your excursion.

Along the way count on seeing historic bridges, lighthouses, and museums. There is also a growing art scene in the region. You can go it alone or opt for a guided tour that will add to your appreciation of the natural features. The tours include outstanding meals that are paired with select wines not offered to the public. Sounds like the way to go!
