Colorado Springs Bed and Breakfast – Holden House

Colorado Springs innkeepers Sallie and Welling Clark moved to Colorado in 1985 and fell in love with a lovely 1902 Victorian home and carriage house. They spent endless hours carefully and meticulously restoring and updating the property. A year later they opened the Holden House Bed and Breakfast to guests. Since then, they’ve continued to welcome guests to the historic home, sharing their love of the property with many over the years. The home is charming and interesting, full of the couple’s personal antiques and family heirlooms as well as items they’ve collected during their travels and purchased specifically for the inn.

Historic Charm and Modern Touches

Six inviting guest suites are spread across 3 side-by-side Victorian homes: the main house, the carriage house, and the Rose Victorian home. The inn sits on a quiet street in a lovely tree-lined neighborhood near historic Old Colorado City. The property is located near the charming mountain town of Manitou Springs and attractions such as Cave of the Winds and Garden of the Gods. At the same time, the inn offers quick, convenient access to downtown Colorado Springs.

The rooms all have queen or king beds and have been updated to feature top of the line modern amenities such as fireplaces, wifi, cable TV and DVD players, in-room refrigerators and private baths, many of which have over-sized tubs for two. The Pikes Peak Suite has a private balcony.

The inn is not lacking in common areas either. Relax by the fireplace in the inn’s living room or make the most of the porch swings and rocking chairs on the veranda. There’s also a Victorian Shakespeare cottage garden as well as a secret back garden with fountains, a gazebo, and Adirondack chairs from where you can enjoy the fresh air of the Colorado Springs.

Delicious Gourmet Breakfast

Each morning of your stay, you’ll be greeted by a lovely gourmet breakfast served in the Victorian Main House’s formal dining room. The dining room is beautifully appointed with gold wallpaper and an 1898 Estate Oak parlor stove which used to belong to the innkeeper’s grandmother and was used on her farm. If you’d rather dine in your own room, that option is also available. The personally prepared breakfasts will include a variety of sweet and savory dishes such as fresh, homemade blueberry muffins, Southwestern Eggs Fiesta, or German Puff Pancakes with Spiced Apples as well fresh coffee, tea, and juice. An early riser’s breakfast package is available for those who need to head out early. To get a sneak peek at breakfast at the Holden House, check out the Inn’s Youtube Channel where innkeeper Sallie Clark demonstrates how to make a guest favorite breakfast dish.

History and Adventure in Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak Region offer something for every type of traveler. Outdoor adventures abound with not only Pikes Peak nearby, but also waterfalls, canyons, and caves waiting to explore. Active visitors will enjoy hiking or taking the historic Pikes Peak Cog Railway to the top of Pikes Peak, exploring Cave of the Winds, checking out the impressive Garden of the Gods, and visiting Seven Falls, a seven-tiered waterfall nearby.

Colorado Springs has an interesting history as a part of the American Frontier and Old Colorado City near the inn was the Colorado Territory’s first capital. Today the historic district in Old Colorado City maintains the feel of the wild west but the buildings are now home to shops, local restaurants, and art galleries that are a fantastic place to spend a few hours strolling. If that leaves you wanting to learn more about Colorado’s history, check out the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum or the Western Museum of Mining & Industry.

At the end of your day exploring, you’ll be welcomed back to the inn with an afternoon wine social, the opportunity to book a massage in your room, and evening turn-down service.
