Holladay House has made extensive green improvements, practices water & energy conservation, composting and uses energy efficient appliances. Most of the food cooked for guests comes from within a 100 mile radius of the inn, and nearly every facet has been made environmentally friendly. Hospitality specialists Sam and Sharon Elswick can explain many of the energy and resource saving methods guests will see in action during their stay. Beyond towel reuse many of our eco friendly B&Bs offer tips that you can take home to make your own life greener. Here's a few of our favorites:
  • Use rain barrels to collect rain waterand use it to water lawns
  • Buy low-flow faucets and dual-flush toilets
  • Save electricity by replacing all light bulbs with compact fluorescents. CF bulbs use about one-fourth of the energy normal incandescent light bulbs and can last up to 10 times as long as standard bulbs
  • Buy locally as much as possible to reduce carbon emissions through delivery
  • Audit your energy bill
  • Run laundry on warm/cold cycle as opposed to hot, itwill getyour clothes equally clean and save energy
  • Use foam insulation when renovating. Foam insulation is more efficient and makes rooms quieter.
