We love lighthouses. There are eight lighthouses out here in the township of Southold on the Eastern end of Long Island. Thais is Long Island Wine Country and in addition to wines we have lighthouses all over the place. You can begin with the Horton's Point Lighthouse which was commissioned by George Washington. Then there is the "The Little Tea Pot" so called, which is the Orient Point Lighthouse and the nearby Plum Island Lighthouse.
When driving from East Marion where we are you pass the "the Bug Light" the Long Beach Bar Lighthouse which is located just off the the peninsula that makes up the Orient State Park Beach. It is so close it looks as if you could swim to it, don't try it the currents there are treacherous.
