Rebecca, Will You Marry Me?

“You Light Up My Life” has a whole new meaning at the Abendblume Inn in Leavenworth, WA where a 24′ sign was brilliantly lit against the backdrop of a snowy field and Christmas carols. Like fairytale magic, the groom brought his soon to be fiance up to the balcony of the Abendblume Inn where they listened to Christmas carols and when the last song ended he got down on his knees and against the back drop of a snowy field, the innkeepers lit a 24′ proposal (that they made especially for the couple). And she said YES….

Harlen and RebeccaWhen a National Guard Soldier stationed in Kuwait contacted the innkeepers at The Park Light Inn in Chester, VT about helping to create the perfect setting for his upcoming engagement on a short visit home from the Middle East, they pledged to make it special.  When they were also contacted by the unknowing soon to be fiance to help in planning some of her own surprises for him, the innkeepers knew they would be part of something magical.  They assisted each of them in planning events and activities that would make the brief visit special.

She carefully planned a memorable dinner; including a horse drawn carriage ride with a tour of the historic village of Chester and a romantic dinner. But she did not stop with a wonderful meal. After dinner, she had planned Christmas in September since he would be in Iraq on Christmas.  Days before their arrival, she shipped Christmas presents and mistletoe to the inn so he would not notice them in her luggage. While they were at dinner, the innkeepers added to the surprise by decorating their room in full holiday splendor, including a fully decorated Christmas tree, wreaths, evergreens and even holiday scented candles and Christmas cookies.

His surprises included an outdoor adventure, to show his California girl the secret that brings those in love to Vermont.  He took her on a late afternoon canoe trip and romantic picnic.  The innkeepers secretly prepared a gourmet picnic and had everything in the car beforehand, so she had no idea where they were going. He had purchased a ring while overseas and had it shipped to his father.  He asked the innkeepers to include the ring and a long stem rose in the picnic basket.  Since he was familiar with the area, he knew just the right romantic spot to take her out on the lake at sunset.  Holding the rose in his hand he magically turned it into a box with her engagement ring.

As we approach the month of romance we’ve decided to share some of the many stories we receive about the unique and special experiences at many of our B&Bs and invite you to share your own stories.
