Bed & Breakfast news for Innkeepers and B&B travelers
Friday, September 21, 2007

It’s no surprise that an increasing number of travelers take their dogs with them on vacation and the B&B industry has responded to this travel trend.  Nearly 25% of inns listed on BnBFinder.com offer some sort of pet-friendly accommodation.  “Unlike chain hotels, B&Bs can be flexible with their policies and can often accommodate a guest’s and a pet’s needs,” says Mary White, founder of the travel industry’s leading online bed and breakfast directory.  Not only do some inns welcome pets, but they specifically cater to them by offering welcome baskets, special bedding and more.  With so many bed and breakfast inns welcoming dogs and other pets, it’s now easier than ever for travelers to hit the road – leash, pull-toy and water bowl in tow.

Choose from a few of BnBFinder.com’s favorite pet-friendly bed and breakfasts or search from over 500 pet friendly inns at www.BnBFinder.com/PetsWelcome.

Slamming doors, shaking beds, and flickering lights.  Scare yourself to sleep this Halloween at a haunted bed and breakfast.  In addition to trick-or-treating and pumpkin carving, getaway for a Halloween scare.  Haunted B&Bs offer you the chance to sleep with friendly ghosts, tour graveyards and listen to scary stories.  From clothes being thrown out of suitcases to knocks at bedroom doors during the middle of the night, all kinds of super-natural occurrences have been reported at B&Bs.

Not into sleeping with ghosts but want a thrill?  Have a frightfully good time at a B&B that has Murder Mystery packages or Halloween specials.  Visit www.BnBFinder.com/MurderMystery and www.BnBFinder.com/Halloween and plan your ghostly getaway or find a Haunted Inn at www.BnBFinder.com/HauntedBnB or choose from a few of BnBFinder’s favorites:

1859 Historic National Hotel
Jamestown, California
www.BnBFinder.com/1859Historic
Beware: the 1859 Historic National Hotel’s friendly ghost Flo generally stays upstairs in the hotel, favoring the rooms in the front of the building although she has been seen early in the morning downstairs, floating through the dining room and right through the walls. There are numerous accounts of doors slamming, lights going on and off, clothing being dumped from suitcases onto the floor, and a woman’s sobbing coming from the hallway in the middle of the night. The inn’s housekeepers also say they have gone into rooms to be greeted by icy cold air even though the heater was working.

Brook Forest Inn
Evergreen, Colorado

www.BnBFinder.com/BrookForest
More than one ghost may walk the halls at the Brook Forest Inn.  A few possible haunts at the inn include a small child ghost who roams the 3rd floor knocking on doors and running up and down the hallways and a woman who has been seen outside the Ambassador Suite on the balcony.  Neighbors of the inn have also seen people walking on the 2nd floor in the two rooms that face the street as well as walking on the balcony – when the inn was empty.

1843 Battery Carriage House Inn
Charleston, South Carolina

www.BnBFinder.com/1843Battery
Though the innkeepers have not seen any ghosts themselves, employees and guests of the inn have at times felt and seen “things.” The house is known to be haunted by two ghosts: a “gentleman ghost” who could be a young man who for no reason known to anyone jumped off the roof of the inn and killed himself and the “headless torso” that from the sound of the clothing it has been seen in, was a person from years and years ago.

Concord’s Colonial Inn
Concord, Massachusetts
www.BnBFinder.com/ConcordsColonial
It’s been confirmed…there are ghosts at Concord’s Colonial Inn.  A ghost was seen at the inn in 1966 when a couple staying at the inn during their honeymoon awoke during the night by a presence in the room and saw a grayish figure at the side of the bed. This was in Room 24 and it is in the oldest part of the Inn. If you’d like a haunted room in the Inn, ask for Room 24. As far as they know, the other rooms are ghost free, but two organizations that investigated the paranormal at Concord’s Colonial Inn suggested other areas of the Inn may be haunted as well.

Red Garter Bed & Bakery
Williams, Arizona

www.BnBFinder.com/RedGarter
While most guests report having a good night’ sleep, some say they have felt the bed shake, heard someone going up and down the stairs or felt something touching their arms. Innkeeper Mr. Holst frequently entertains guests with colorful stories from the history of the region and Route 66. The history lesson is complete with old photographs of the area and building, including a photo of members of the Mora family with a suspiciously grinning, dark-haired woman in the background whose reflection does not show up in the mirror.
