The Historic Port Washington Inn on Sweetcake Hill

Built in 1903 by George and Eva Blessing, this grand home four blocks from Lake Michigan has views of the art deco lighthouse in the harbor! Yet it enjoys the peacefulness of a residential neighborhood and park-like grounds that invite guests to enjoy the outdoors on a pleasant day. Grace's Suite has a private balcony with a lake view!

The dining room is bathed in sunlight in the morning

Exquisite light is one of the attractions of the Port Washington Inn and the dining room is beautifully awash in light on a sunny morning. Just off the dining room is the cozy library where reading material, the CD music collection, and board games are available for guests.

Beautiful Woodwork Enhances the Inn

This quartersawn oak hutch is the centerpiece of the dining room. It was situated to draw one's eye when entering the front door. As was typical with homes built in this time period, the formal side of the house was differentiated from the informal side of the house. In this home, quartersawn oak was used in the formal side, douglas fir was used elsewhere. We find both to be equally beautiful!

The double parlors have many seating areas and guests choose their favorite spot. Original chandeliers, quartersawn oak floors, classic columns,coved ceilings, and picture rails, and huge windows define the space. The walnut bookshelves in the background were made in Dave's workshop. See the website blog for pictures of other furniture he and Aaron have made for the inn!
