What a wonderful place to stay in Virginia Beach. The owners Stephen and Marie-Louise LaFond are warm and friendly. The rooms are beautiful, we stayed in Alice's Room. A great breakfast, with many extras are included in your stay. Their dinner advise can't be beat. If you want a quite and relaxing place to stay, Barclay Cottage should be your choice.

EXCELLENT... Wow.. our stay at the Barclay Cottage (23-27 june 08 ) was the best B@B that we were in... Steve and Marie-Louise were the perfect host..The breakfast settin was gorgeous and the food really homemade taste... Many time I did ask Steven for directions or things to see and I felt that he was really enjoying helping us...The cottage is quier...affordable and we really felt like it was home away from home..we were close to the beach but away form the heavy trafic..If yu want to enjoy a short or a long vacation, do not hesitate to pick the Barclay Cottage for yur stay....

Steve and Marie-Louise, the hosts at Barclay Cottage were so welcoming, and their inn was so comfortable that it was hard to leave on Monday morning. Our room was lovely, spotless, and had a mattress so comfortable that we plan to buy one like it for ourselves. Bikes, beach chairs, towels, and even sunscreen were at the ready for our use, and one of our hosts worked hard to arrange a kayak tour for us on a day when none were being officially offered. Breakfast both days was delicious and the company was great. We thought it was a great touch that Steve and Marie-Louise made a point of participating in the breakfast conversations to help everyone feel at home. The crowning touch was the fact that the inn is only two blocks from the ocean. We are already recommending Barclay Cottage to our friends. I returned home yesterday from Barclay and just looking at the pictures makes me sad that I'm not sitting there now. I cannot say enough about this bed & breakfast. Everything was perfect. My boyfriend took me there as a surprise and actually ended up proposing over the weekend. Steve and Marie-Louise helped to make the weekend so special for us. From an early morning picnic, to mimosas at breakfast, to a "Happy Engagement" sign, to a personalized call to a restaurant ensuring that we had the best seats, to a champagne toast on one of the amazing porches in the evening - they went above and beyond. I really could keep going with all the 'extras', but for the sake of length, will move on:)
The property itself is amazing. Located just two blocks from the beach, it feels just like home. There is relaxing music in the rooms, wide porches with rocking chairs, beach cruisers, and the stay even includes beach towels and chairs! The breakfast that we had each morning was phenomenal. I would stay at this bed & breakfast for the food alone!
I couldn't keep the secret of the wonderful Barclay Cottage (not to mention Steve and Marie-Louise) to myself. Every single time that we are back in Virginia Beach, we will be staying at Barclay Cottage. I suggest you treat yourself and do the same! |

Beautiful B&B! Exceptionally comfortable, warm and friendly . . . we felt right at home! Stephen and Marie-Louise were extremely helpful supplying us with local information and accomodating our early-morning departure plans. Breakfast was delicious! All the little extras throughout our stay made it most enjoyable. Definitely deserves the highest B&B ratings! |

In 10 years the best, most romantic, fabulous Inn we have stayed in. If felt like home and we hated to leave, great Inn keepers!! |

My wife and I are repeat guests at Barclay Cottage because of the delicious breakfasts, comfortable rooms, detailed & well thought-out amenities and, especially, the warm & welcoming atmosphere created by the innkeepers, Steve and Marie-Louise LaFond. It is immediately obvious how much they love their work and how dedicated they are to ensure that each guest feels pampered and relaxed during their stay. |

This Bed and Breakfast is a "home away from home' at the beach and so much more enjoyable than an anonymous hotel room. We loved the hospitality and warmth of the hosts and the breakfasts were delicious!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. |

Our stay at Barclay Cottage was our first venture into B&Bs in the U.S. We usually stay at hotels, but not any longer ! All of the positive comments of previous guests were exceeded. The leisurely breakfast around the common dining table is an excellent way to get to know your fellow guests. We encountered car trouble during our visit and Steve assisted with shuttle service to the garage. Marie-Louise and Steve are innkeeepers par excellance. They have set a high standard for their competition. Highly recommended for anyone considering a visit to the Norfolk, Virginia Beach area. |

This cozy B&B was our centrally located sanctuary -- just two blocks off VA Beach's teeming boardwalk. The owners, Steve and Marie-Louise, are friendly, chatty and helped us plan our weekend in town. We stayed in the flower room -- kitschy (as the name implies) but tasteful, with a wooden rocking chair and a king-sized bed. The sheets were crisp and clean. The home’s decor draws on its history as a schoolhouse, as well as the bay's environment. Breakfast, on the day we were there, included orange juice, coffee (very good), fresh fruit, and quiche. Overall: much more memorable than the monolithic hotels lining the beach. |

Innkeepers were very helpful, went out of their way to provide information and support, and had a great sense of humor. Inn was clean and within walking distance of the beach. |

It's hard to say what was better, the hospitality or the yummy dining. We were in town for the Shamrock Marathon. Steve and Marie-Louise provided special carb-loaded 6 a.m. breakfasts to the four guests who were running, gave us a ride to the starting line, then provided the customary full breakfasts for other guests, and then -- in an incredible above-and-beyond effort -- had a full-meal brunch waiting for us after the race. In between, Steve found time to go out on the course to cheer us on. Great inn, great people, great fun. |

I felt like I was in a family member's home. Actually, it was better than staying with family because Steve and Marie-Louise are better hosts. The food was great, the atmosphere was relaxed. They anticipated every single need with ease and generosity. This is the best place I've ever stayed! |

My wife and I have been going to Barclay Cottage for 3 years now. The attractiveness of the Inn, the comfort of the rooms, the delicious food, the hospitality/warmth of the hosts and the delightful extra amenities all keep us coming back every year! |

What a charming Inn. The atmosphere is very casual and comfortable. Breakfast was fantastic, the bed was one the most comfortable we've ever slept. The Innkeepers went to great lengths to make sure we had everything we needed at the inn and were also very helpful in finding great things to do in Virginia Beach (I had been to Virginia Beach in the past, but wasn't impressed; however, they were most helpful in finding things off the beaten path that were a lot of fun). Steve and Marie-Louise, the Innkeepers, are such nice, warm people with great senses of humor - we really enjoyed and miss the delicious food and great conversations we had at breakfast. We can't wait to go back! |

Extremely warm and hospitable hosts, and it's quiet, yet convenient location, make this a wonderful place to stay in Virginia Beach. Rooms are very comfortable and there's a super porch filled with rockers - enjoyable even in the cool of December. Breakfast was delicious and offered a relaxed chance for interesting conversations with hosts and other guests. Highly recommended. |

This is truly a home away from home. I've stayed in atleast a dozen B&B's and these hosts are my favorite. They make your stay so pleasurable. As a business traveler, I like knowing it will feel like home when I'm there! |

The Barclay Cottage is a quaint little property in the heart of Virginia Beach. The owners were most hospitable and it was a great off-season escape. We thoroughly enjoyed staying in the "lighthouse room." |
