Framed by the Blue Ridge Mountains and within walking distance to downtown Roanoke, Virginia, The King George Inn Bed & Breakfast defines a moment in history of opulence, elegance, and friendly porches. In the early 1900's commerce and industry created new wealth and an urban architectural culture emerged concentrated in a community of what is now known in Roanoke as Old Southwest. A walking tour of Old Southwest vividly reflects the rich and diverse architectural history and the importance of a heritage worth preserving.
Lynn and Jim Hunt, the innkeepers, recognized the potential of this magnificent Colonial Revival and restored it to its former grandeur. While maintaining the integrity of the original home, spacious bathrooms and fixtures were added, the butler’s pantry remolded and a fabulous kitchen created.
Floors gleam, large front windows welcome the morning sun, and Persian carpets provide interesting color and patterns that are the foundation for vintage furnishings and comfortable dining areas. The upstairs art gallery features a rotating collection of recognized regional artists' work, as well as Lynn’s current works of art showcased in the "sleeping porch's" Roof Top Gallery. Four luxurious suites, each with a private bath and sitting area, connect to a spacious and comfortable gathering area suited for computer work, reading or simply relaxing and enjoying the ambiance of this special place.

I live near Roanoke and so I am familiar with many of the local lodging options. Of course, I have a favorite. When the opportunity arises for a quick week-end get away to shop and enjoy the downtown Roanoke market place area, you can't beat the King George Inn for a perfect place to stay. Lynn & Jim totally spoil all of their guests. The house is a magnificant, well restored, historical Roanoke mansion. The location is perfect for enjoying the downtown area, and what a treat to come home to the KGI after enjoying one of the many downtown Roanoke festivals (presently the "Dickens of a Christmas" when I stayed with Lynn & Jim). 5 stars! A+! Bravo!

I recently stayed at the King George Inn, and I can truly say that the experience was exquisite! The mansion -- built in the early 1900's -- is gorgeous, and the rooms are filled with lovely, period-appropriate antiques and furnishings. The hosts have made every effort to insure their guests' comfort; the guest rooms are thoughtfully appointed and luxurious, and breakfast was delicious (I toyed with the idea of trying to reproduce the meal myself, but I've concluded it'll be far better to book a return stay!). In addition, the location is great, just a short distance from the center of Roanoke. I highly recommend the King George Inn.

I wish I'd had a hoop skirt to wear as I floated down that elegant grand staircase! What an place to spend the night! I was in Roanoke for a wedding and the King George Inn was SO much better than a run-of-the-mill hotel. I also felt that I was supporting a place that would give back to the Roanoke community. The Innkeepers are thoughtful and pleasant without being overly officious.

Wonderful atmosphere, beautiful rooms, delicious food, and Jim and Lynn Hunt were gracious hosts. I enjoyed Lynn's art lesson and will certainly return.

This was one of the nicest B&B stays we have had. The house is grand and comfortable at the same time, and Jim and Lynn have kept many of the old fixtures and features while doing the renovations. It's a nice mix of renovation, restoration and preservation. Jim and Lynn are very hospitable hosts and made us feel right at home - despite our busy weekend schedule we ended up sitting and talking as if we were more family than guests. And the breakfasts were marvelous!

The King George Inn is a beautiful colonial home in historic Southwest Roanoke. Each bedroom has a colonial theme and the rooms are large with spacious modern bathrooms. Dining rooms, studies, and living rooms are huge with 14-foot high ceilings throughout. Many choices to mingle or be to yourself. The innkeepers are great, and the food is great.
