Before taking a roadtrip from Atlanta to New England through the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, we decided to look for somewhere more exciting to stay than the normal hotel. I searched and found the perfect place - The Huffman House at Creekside Farm. It was a picture perfect farm beside a beautiful creek between the rolling hills in the Shenandoah Valley. Ron and Carol Baker have done an amazing job restoring this 1835 farmhouse to include all the comforts of home. It's like going to the grandparents house we all wish we had. We walked the paths around the farm and enjoyed seeing all of the farm-animals. Ron even took us in the corral to pet the week-old foals. Our bedroom was large and beautifully decorated with a private bath, and the beds and linens were comfy soft. Breakfast was a home-cooked feast, and a cup of tea on the porch swing afterward set our mood for the day. Whenever we are traveling in that area again, we will definitely stay at the Huffman House at Creekside Farm.

Carol and Ron went out of their way to make sure our needs met and our stay comfortable. I am allergic to wheat/gluten, so Carol made some wonderful and delicious gluten-/wheat-free meal especially the bread and muffins. We enjoyed interacting with farm animals as it was a nice break for us from hiking the Appalachian Trail. Thanks for everything! We hope to come back to visit them again.

I had the pleasure of Carol's personal tour of Huffman House on April 16, 2010, while conducting Huffman genealogy research. I did not rate food or expectations because I did not stay overnight. You will find Carol a charming hostess -- very articulate and interesting -- a second marriage love story for her and Ron.
Their country decor using period-appropriate furnishings and "found" items, beautiful quilts, and their clever use of kitchen tiles all demonstrate a creativity to try at your home. Nice plants too...inside, on a sun porch, and outside as part of a rock-walled raised bed. Children should especially enjoy the creek, seeing farm animals, and the activities of a sizable working farm operated by Ron.
The Huffman House is in a scenic getaway spot that you and your friends should truly enjoy. It even includes one big room with extra beds to accommodate families.
Carol and Ron discovered the farm while thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail and frequently host hikers as well as Hokies attending VT events in nearby Blacksburg.

We never stay at the same B&B twice because there are so many choices and we love to explore. The Huffman House is our exception! We have stayed twice and plan on staying many more times. We just enjoy the breakfasts so much. Carol is so creative with the meals. Nothing is better than waking up to the breakfast smells nd trying to guess what she is serving. Each breakfast is different with severalfood choices and everything is HOMEMADE! Ron and Carol are the best hosts, shuttling us to hiking trail heads and touring their working farm. What a treat for us to be with the farm animals. We have already made plans for a return trip. Thanks Carol and Ron for allowing us to relax and enjoy your wonderful home and farm.
