The Civil War There are many historical ties with Civil War study most interesting. Gen. "Stonewall" Jackson taught at VMI until the war and General Robert E. Lee came back to Lexington after the War to become President of what is now Washington & Lee University. There are plenty of historical sites, museums, libraries, and the Lexington Visitor Center is the best around. The George Marshall Museum is closeby.
