Located in Harrisonburg, Virginia is the By the Side of the Road Bed & Breakfast. This Historic B&B is located in the heart of Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley and is within minutes of the amenities and entertainment of our thriving city. Unique to the Shenandoah Valley, our cottages are designed for intimacy and maximum relaxation. Our self check-in policy enables you to enter a setting prepared especially for your romantic time together. Our 5,000 square-foot Manor House, built in 1789, offers four elegant and distinctly different accommodations, each with private luxury bath and all separated by thick interior walls to insure quiet and privacy.
All four rooms are the vision of comfort with featherbeds atop firm mattresses, fireplaces (either gas-log or candle-lit)We also have three private cottages with heated whirlpool tubs, seasonal fireplaces and your special hot gourmet breakfast is delivered to your door.

We would highly recommend this home to anyone looking for a romantic and relaxing get a way. The home and grounds are beautiful. It is also near some wonderful area restaurants. Dennis and Janice were wonderful hosts.

I would tell them that I had a wonderful stay. It was a very beautiful place. I loved the very soft and cozy bed. I loved having breakfast delievered to the door. It was a place you could go and relax and enjoy yourself.

So comfortable, in fact my immediate purchase upon returning home was to purchase a featherbed mattress for ALL of the beds in our house-it was such an unexpected treat to sleep on that surface..who knew? Not me! Loved the bathroom-it was huge! I lit the candles and took a soak. Loved the coffee maker in the bathroom as well. Breakfast was healthy and delicious, homemade biscuits like one dreams about.We were checking out JMU for our daughter, so much nicer than a hotel. We will be back! especially since she is going to go to JMU!
