An avenue of towering red maples serves as your welcoming committee to North River, an historic Virginia bed-and-breakfast and vacation retreat. Standing tall and stately, these silent sentinels guide you up the lane to the place you'll call home during your stay.
Surrounded on three sides by salt water, North River spreads luxuriously across one-hundred acres of Virginia countryside in the historic Tidewater region off the lower Chesapeake Bay. Out here, where the land meets the water and the present meets the past, you'll have a rare glimpse of life as it once was in rural Virginia . . . unhurried, gracious, and breathtakingly beautiful.
Established as the 17th century estate of sea captain Thomas Todd, these broad fields stretching down to the tidal river have been farmed for more than 350 years, and have earned the designation Centennial Farm by the Virginia Department of Agriculture. Toddsbury, the original home on the property, is a National Register and Virginia Historic Landmark house, which today serves as the private home of the Montague family who own and operate North River.
Three distinctive historic homes are available; each is set privately at the end of its own lane. Creek House has four and one-half bedrooms and four private baths. Toddsbury Cottage has three bedrooms and two baths with relaxing screened in porches and sleeps up-to five people. The Toodsbury Guest House features accommodations for two and can be added to The Creek House or Toddsbury Cottage rental for extra room.
We are also ideal for hosting family retreats and corporate workshops for groups up to twenty people. We will tailor our accommodations and meeting rooms to fit your needs.

Cancellation Policy: |
For cancellations prior to two weeks of arrival date, we will refund the twenty-five percent deposit in full, less a $25.00 handling fee. For cancellations under two weeks, we will charge for the whole stay, and also issue a gift certificate for the same amount, good for use within a year.
