Welcome to Miss Molly's Inn – a bed and breakfast inn on Chincoteague Island, Virginia.
In 1886, Mr. J. T. Rowley, then known as the "clam king of the world" built a charming Victorian home on Chincoteague Island. Today, the house has been beautifully restored and offers wonderful bed & breakfast accommodations and warm hospitality to the Island visitor. Miss Molly's B&B Inn sits on the bay and has five wonderful porches with lots of rocking chairs and a large deck on the second floor that overlooks the bay. We also have a beautiful screened in porch which is full of flowers where you can sip aromatic coffee while you watch the mother ducks with their ducklings, seagulls wheeling overhead and a couple of lazy cats that sleep in the sunshine, or enjoy a traditional English afternoon tea listening to some soft music or watch the boats go past in the channel.
No matter what time of the year you come to Chincoteague, there is always lots to do. For example, if you like the water, you can go kayaking, sailing, surfing or hire motor boats. Captains will take you on wonderfully informative or romantic cruises. There is some really great fishing here – off the dock, on the inland waterways or out to sea – your choice.
We have bikes, but you are also welcome to bring your own. Chincoteague and Assateague are great for biking. There is hiking and sight seeing, photography and world class bird watching. Assateague has a glorious, unspoiled beach and the most wonderful wild life reserve. We have great shopping and good restaurants and plenty of quiet spots to curl up with a good book. All through the year, Chincoteague plays host to all sorts of festivals and attractions. Our Island is unspoiled and perfect for families, lovers and anybody who needs a little peace and serenity.
Chincoteague is famous for many and varied reasons, but the most famous of all is the book Misty of Chincoteague by Marguerite Henry. Misty is the story of a wild pony and two children who want to buy her at the yearly auction of the wild ponies, where they swim from Assateague to Chincoteague in July under the watchful gaze of the salt water cowboys. Misty was Marguerite Henry's most famous book, it is beautifully written and enjoyed by all age groups, and is part of the library at all schools along the Eastern shore. The wonderful part about all this is that, Marguerite Henry wrote Misty at Miss Molly's in 1947 when she boarded with Miss Molly and her uncle Capt. Jack.
You will find treasures and mementos, books and videos about Misty all over the Island, but only you can say you stayed where Misty was written. |
