Reluctant Panther Inn and RestaurantDisappointed1.509/23/2009My husband and I went to the Reluctant Panther to celebrate our anniversary; however, we left feeling violated and very shaken up. After driving over three hours to get to the Reluctant Panther Inn, we decided to relax in the hot tub located in the bathroom. Before doing so, we both checked to make sure our room door was locked. After sitting in the hot tub for a short while, we were terrorized to see a woman standing in the bathroom door attempting to talk to us! We were both undressed, in the hot tub, and she was just standing there trying to talk to us! Imagine sitting in your hotel room confident your door was locked and then being traumatized by someone just walking into the room while you were undressed! The woman saw how hysterical I was and finally left. We quickly climbed out of the tub and my husband called the front desk to complain. The person at the front desk simply said it was the maid who was trying to turn down the bed and she had done nothing wrong! Why on earth would this woman enter a locked room, see our shoes, clothes, coats. car keys, cell phones, etc. laying around and think the room was empty?? My pocketbook was right on top of the bed so how could she possibly think I was not there? By the way, there was no way to lock the room from the inside - we were told this was a fire hazard! We were so shaken up that we packed up our things, went down to the front desk, and told the manager we were checking out. We immediately left - we did not stay overnight. However, they had the nerve to charge us for this as if we had stayed and actually enjoyed ourselves. Their reasoning for this was that the maid did nothing wrong. Are they kidding????

Response This guest failed to use the "Privacy" sign that is provided for each room. Our housekeeper, in the normal process for evening turndown service, knocked a total of six times and, hearing no response, entered the room and announced herself by shouting "housekeeping"; hearing no response she began to prepare the room for turndown and, on walking into the bathroom, discovered the guests were in the jacuzzi. She immediately left he room and reported the incident to the night manager. Soon afterward, the man came down to the front desk and, according to the night manager, began to cause a scene, moving up and down the hallways screaming that this place was "the devil". The night manager apologized, but no rssponse could calm the guest down, and the night manager then decided to call the owners rather than the police. After several email exchanges with the owners, this guest agreed that he should have used the provided "privacy" sign and that the whole incident was an unfortunate result of that failure. Since the couple had stayed in the room and had used it fully, he was properly charged for the night's stay. The housekeeper followed our very clear policy to the letter and does not deserve blame for this incident.

Reluctant Panther Inn and RestaurantVivian Segall503/18/2008The entire inn, including our room, was gorgeous. The owners and staff were exceptionally personable and kind. This time, I brought our 16-year-old daughter and her friend, and we all loved our stay.
