The Applewood Manor Bed and Breakfast Inn is within walking distance of Castleton State College and is convenient to many other Vermont colleges. The B&B’s 33 acre property has woodland walks and the Castleton River (noted for trout-fishing) runs through it. The local area presents spectacular scenery and a wealth of outdoor activities including hiking, skiing, horseback riding, bicycling, fishing, and snowmobiling. Great shopping and historic sites, such as Fort Ticonderoga, are conveniently located to the bed & breakfast, as well as galleries and antique stores.
The original house was built in 1789 by Noah Hoit with the colonial front being added in 1803. The character and history of the house have been lovingly preserved through careful renovations, providing an interesting and comfortable place to stay. The five guest rooms are beautifully appointed with antiques and each has a private bathroom. Both the elegant guest lounge and the charming dining room have working fireplaces. In summer, the porch and swimming pool area provide lovely outdoor space. |

Samson is a wonderful, friendly, golden retriever. His main role is as official greeter. Our cat, Sophie, is quite a character and spends most of the non-winter months outside chasing butterflies, etc. She's not allowed in any of the guest areas or rooms. |

An exeptional experience to say the least. Very clean, neat, and comfortable. Well above average. Nancy was a gracious hostess and Ralph cooks awesome blueberry pancakes. This B&B is within walking distance of Castleton College, a real advantage when attending events there, but on a quiet side street so there is no traffic noise.

Such a wonderful and warm place to stay. Nancy and Ralph really go above and beyond expectations. The rooms are lovely, the food is delicious, and the conversations make you feel like you're home. I look forward to my staying here soon and as often as possible. Two thumbs up!

Nancy and Ralph are so hospitable, they really go out of their way to make sure you feel comfortable and their place is so cozy. They even upgraded me for free!!! And had tea made for me every night. I can't wait to go back to their Bed and Breakfast.

This was my second stay at Applewood Manor and I can wait to go back. Nancy and Ralph are the most hospitable, attentive innkeepers. All the rooms are unique and immaculate with best beds ever for napping or sleeping in. Worth a detour or an extra day's stay for such a special place. Did I mention that breakfasts are delicious and beautifully served and that you will want to eat a second piece of the lemon cake?

Our party of friends and family booked all but one room and had a great time. As always, Ralph and Nancy provided excellent breakfasts, super-comfortable accommodations, and superb hospitality! It is a warm, wonderful place.

Everything about Applewood Manor is extraordinary! The beautiful 1789 house has been updated to provide luxurious accommodations while retaining its original character. The rooms are beautifully decorated, with very comfortable beds, fine linens, and modern baths with big fluffy towels. The public rooms are cozy and comfortable; there is a good selection of books, as well as satellite TV/DVD. Ralph and Nancy are the ultimate hosts - very friendly and welcoming - and Ralph's breafasts are to die for! Castleton is a tranquil country location, but close to Rutland and the Okemo and Killington ski areas. The location makes a good "home base" for day trips to Woodstock, Lake George, Burlington, Fort Ticonderoga, etc. We have stayed at Applewood Manor four times - in winter, summer, and this last time, late fall. Each time, it was wonderful. This last time, we brought friends and family with us,and booked all but one room - everyone in our party had a great time. We look forward to visiting again soon, maybe in the summer to relax on the porch and to enjoy the pool!

The room we had is bigger than my livingroom and the bath bigger than my kitchen. The bed was wonderful and the sheets soooo soft. The hosts were wonderful even printing a map for us. The 18th and 19th century house was immaculate and wonderfully decorated. The best part? The coffee was brilliant!

The rooms were wonderfully decorated and so comfortable. Our bed was great! The breakfasts were plentiful & tasty. The host & hostess invited us into the kitchen for coffe in the morning where we got to watch birds & wildlife while the host cooked breakfast. What a wonderful experience. I'll never stay in a hotel again, as long as Applewood Manor is open! You must stay there!!!!
