The Pond House Inn of Brownsville, VT is nestled in the mountains just south of Woodstock. The bed & breakfast is surrounded by ten stone walled acres, and housed in an 1830's white cape. The pond is surrounded by trees and fields and is spring fed, making it perfect for an afternoon swim or relaxing on a float with a good read. The bed and breakfast is cozy with a smattering of antiques, Orientals and touches of Laura Ashley here and there. The accommodations include three guest rooms with queen size beds, down comforters, feather beds, 600 count linens, private baths with marble and European fixtures and two modern compromises: wireless internet and iPod docs.
The Pond House Bed & Breakfast can offer you the utmost in quiet and relaxation. We are not merely accommodations - we are a destination. Be sure to visit our full website for our special packages, which include ski packages, Italian feasts, and Italian cooking getaways. A candlelit breakfast next to the wood fire is included in the rates (see our website). The host of the inn, Gretel, is an enthusiastic bike tourer and knows the best routes in the area, which is home to the Brownsville 50 and 100. The Pond House Inn can design bike tours for all skill levels, which include favorite lunch stop ideas. The Green Mountain Horse Association, a New England horse lover’s destination, is only minutes away with events throughout the year. The B and B can provide stabling and turn-out for guests horses. Guests can ride from the property to enjoy endless miles of trails and dirt roads, returning for a swim and dinner ($50/couple-reservations required) followed by a rousing set of croquet on the lawn. |

We had such a good time and wonderful first time fly fishing experience thanks to Gretel's superb arrangements. Gretel is a wonderful cook and the setting, food and accommodations were lovely, delicious and very comfortable. Jackson and the goats add to the charm and coziness.

The Pond House Inn is a Vermont country inn the way you imagine it! 10 beautiful acres that include a pond (of course) fed by a gently trickling, cool mountain stream...wild flowers, spectacular mountain vistas (with comfortable, well-placed chairs for enjoying the view) a rustic Vermont backroad. Peaceful perfection! Oh, you'll also get a kick out of the goats in the farm yard.
The Inn is Vermont all the way. No pretense. Simple, attractive country furnishings with a few well-placed antiques. The cast iron wood-burner was very inviting on one of the cool Green Mountain evenings we were there. Our room was spacious, and very comfortable.
Best part...the food is as good as any fine restaurant cuisine you'll find. Gretel is a first-rate gourmet cook! Breakfast and dinner are included...you can't go hungry.
When we return to Vermont, and we hope that will be soon, we will certainly stay at the Pond House Inn.

This lovely 1830's farmhouse is in the beautiful
Vermont countryside about 15 miles from Woodstock.
Filled with antiques but with modern plumbing, it is
very comfortable, and beautifully decorated. A gourmet
dinner with wine, as well as breakfast, is part of the
very reasonable price. The garden and fields are for
wandering, with wicker or Adirondack chairs here and
there for lazing. A few goats add to the bucolic air;
but the piece de resistance is Jackson, the dog.
Jackson will race you to the pond, and demonstrate, in
case you don't understand, that you are to throw the
stick into the water for him to retrieve with a splash!
The night sky is full of thousands of stars, not
usually seen by city dwellers, and tiny frogs sing you
to sleep. It was a great experience and I would
recommend it heartily.
