High in the mountains of NE Tennessee, this "feet up" luxurious Inn welcomes everyone to come and "set a spell". Learn to live on Mountain time where life slows down and you have time smell the roses.
Surrounded by the majesty and beauty of Mother Nature, you will feel like you have come home to a favorite aunt's place. "Pampering Perfected" is our goal and we must be doing something right since many guests return time and time again.
This log lodge was built on one of the few flat places on the property next to the Cherokee National Forest and when the trees were cleared....oh my! What a view!
Hiking trails right outside the back door; a koi pond (the fish love to be fed); the sound of birds and wind, not cars and sirens; clouds drifting overhead as you swing in the hammock; full breakfast each morning - outside in nice weather, inside by the wood burning fireplace or formal dining room when the weather gets cooler; no dishes to wash or meals to plan.
Within 45 minutes or less there are myriad activities for the entire family from hiking a section of the Appalachian Trail to attending live theater at the Barter.
And don't forget, although the Inn is for couples...the Creekside Chalet and House on Watauga Lake are for the entire family or group of friends. And the Inn can be rented in its entirety as well - come play golf at Red Tail; boat on Watauga Lake; follow the Quilt Trail and so much more. |

Love the location and the absolutely fabulous views from the Inn. If your goal is to find a peaceful and relaxing environment away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, look no further. The scenery from the Inn is second to none. The only sights you see from the Inn are unspoiled mountains and valleys and not other condos and cell towers. This is truly a place to relax. And Vikki, the inn keeper, is truly hospitable and knowledgeable of the area and local activities. My wife and I keep coming back for more.
Things to know before you go: Johnson County and neighboring Carter County don't have liquor stores. Stock up before you come if you want anything stronger than beer. Most of the nicer area restaraunts are further than just around the corner so take some food to store in the guest fridge if you plan on just lounging around the Inn all day and not going out. Fly fishing opportunities are everywhere.

The Iron Mountain Inn exceeded our expectations. from the minute you enter the long winding uphill drive way, guests are transported from ho hum Tennessee mountain community vistas to WOW! Set on the top of its own hill and surrounded by the Iron Mountain range, this log cabin style B and B offers views, trails, comfort and hospitality like few others. Presided over by the innkeeper, Vikki Woods, the friendship, warmth and helpfulness overflows from the minute you arrive until you leave. Her breakfasts are bountiful, the rooms are spacious and comfortable, many with their own balconies, and Vikki knows the area as well as a native. Lakes, trails (including the AT), antiquing and quaint towns in nearby North Carolina and Virginia make the Inn the perfect home base for excursions or just stay at home relaxing. And since Vikki has 3 properties (a creekside chalet and a lakeside cottage), every need is met. Go to the Iron Mountain Inn. Meet Vikki. Return again and again.

I was visiting Iron Mountain Inn along with 6 other women in my family who were there to celebrate my mother's 80th birthday. Although the Inn's owner had been helpful on the phone when we were planning our trip to the Appalachian Mountains, once we arrived it was another matter. We had rented the whole inn (4 rooms) for a rate of $400 for one night. We understood that breakfast foods would be provided, but we would "do it ourselves". That was fine except that we found the kitchen countertops, work surfaces, pots & pans etc. to be greasy and grimy. We never did see the fresh bacon and loaf of bread that was to be left for our group to use. We DID find a half loaf of bread, a carton of unopened juice, a few eggs...and a refrigerator full of moldy cheeses, slimy produce, all sorts of unlabeled, opened, and past-date foods of all kinds. The setting of the Inn was nice enough, but the unsanitary conditions in the kitchen and the rest of the interior (I forgot to mention soiled carpets & dirty floors)were bad enough that we would not return to, nor recommend Iron Mountain Inn to anyone.
Response
The dozen or more eggs in the carton were from a local farm and we reuse the cartons...I forgot to mention this to the group since they seemed in a hurry to have me depart. There was a fresh gallon of orange juice in the frig and bread in the bread box. There was unopened bacon and sausage in the frig which they somehow missed. Because the group was there for one night only (at a special rate of $350), I had left some of my own food in the frig - had they stayed for my normal week long rental, the frig would have been completely cleaned and emptied. As for dirty carpets, etc. I can't understand that as the guests who followed the group commented on how clean and nice everything was! I am sorry the group did not contact me immediately (I was on property or within reach by phone at all times) so that I could have remedied the problems that concerned them.

Vikki is an excellent innkeeper. Our experience was beyond our expections. She looked to every detail to make sure we were taken care of and pampered. It was hard to leave! We look forward to another visit to this beautiful Inn.

The inn is located atop a mountain and is surrounded by woods and mountain views which we found very peaceful. Also, the inn is close to North Carolina and Virginia, so we were able to make day trips to a variety of places without having to drive very far. We stayed in the Blue Room at the back of the Inn overlooking a garden with a water feature and opened our balcony door in the evening to enjoy the sound of the water. The room was very comfortable and the decor was tasteful. Breakfasts were great--always included fresh fruit and some type of meat. We came away relaxed and refreshed and look forward to our next visit!

WOW!!! This is a great place to go if you want peace and quiet. My wife and I were pleasantly surprised by the charm and beauty of the log home B&B. There was stunning views from the room and the spacious decks. Our Host, Vickie made our stay very enjoyable. Vickie paid attention to everything we talked about. My wife unknowingly mentioned that it would be nice to have breakfast on the porch in the morning. There it was, the following morning. When Nancy wanted to stay a extra day Vickie enticed us with her charm and a special treat (extra cookies from the bottomless cookie jar). I could go on forever on how great a place this is to stay but you should experience it for yourself. Remember this is a mountain retreat... you don't want to miss it. Thank you Vickie. We will be back with our family and pets (Bruno and Vito)
