The Captain James Preston House

The pineapple is the traditional symbol of hospitality. When colonial sea captains returned from their tropical voyages, they hung pineapples on their front doors as a sign of welcome and hospitality. Many times they are used on signs to give a feeling of friendship and welcome. As you enter the Captain Preston House on the front porch, you will see two gilded pineapples – true to both Captain Preston's seafaring history and our sense of hospitality to you, our guests.
