We actually didn't stay at the Inn but were looking for a new restaurant to try. We only live about 40 minutes away, but would love to stay here some day. The hospitality was wonderful and it was nice to be remembered by my earlier phone inquiry about the menu. We immediately felt so welcome and as the evening went on we felt like old friends.
Our dinner was wonderful in every way. Our waitperson was very knowledgeable about all aspects of their menu. I was torn between two of my favorites for an appetizer and decided on the chicken livers when I was told that they were the chef's specialty. Wow-what a delicious choice! They were cooked perfectly, not deep fried and dry as I have experienced since living in the south. The sauce was unbelievable and I so wish I had the recipe. Honestly the best appetizer I have ever eaten! I ordered the creamy seafood soup instead of salad and was glad I did-a very nice subtle flavor and good consistency. Oh-and the dinner rolls that were served before soup and salad were very soft and so fresh-I guess that's why they tasted so good. I ordered the fresh trout for my entree-couldn't have been happier if I had caught it myself. The way it was prepared and seasoned added a nice variation to the usual trout fare and only enhanced the flavor of the trout. My husband and son thoroughly enjoyed the Australian lamb chops-cooked perfectly. A nice surprise were the fresh vegetables (as sides of vegetables are sometimes just ho-um and often times overlooked and overcooked). The presentation alone was very nice with the vegetables julienne sliced and arranged nicely, but the best part was the delightful taste. Another great sauce which made this a truly exciting dish on it's own. For dessert, my vanilla creme brulet was just like it should taste with a nice crispness on top. Equally good was my son's chocolate brulet. A special for the evening was concocted by our waitperson (I think it was called a pumpkin martini), almost like a pudding but very light and what flavors. My husband is fussy about desserts and he truly loved this one. If I wasn't so full I would have ordered this for a second dessert, but showed restraint. All the portions served were generous but not overwhelming.
I finally don't have to agonize now about where to take our out of town family and friends for dinner. Now I have a place I would be proud to have even my chef friend eat at when visiting from Seattle.
The grounds at the Inn are beautiful and just down the hill, the cute little town of Tryon is perfect for visitors who want to get a flavor of our wonderful Western North Carolina. Hope you all enjoy!

We were looking for a quick weekend getaway and came across the Pine Crest Inn on the Internet. Although they are only about 20 minutes from our summer home, we felt like it was another world. We had nothing but wonderful experiences during our stay, from the ambiance of the room (Windsor) with a cozy fireplace, jacuzzi tub, and one of the most magnificent beds we have ever slept in, to the exceptional service and hospitality at the front desk and from the innkeeper, to the quiet and picturesque grounds and country setting, to the wonderful afternoon tea, evening port & sherry, and again, the exceptional customer service! The complimentary sodas and water in the mini-fridge were a nice surprise also. Our room was extremely clean, comfortable, and beautifully decorated and felt absolutely sumptuous after a day of hiking waterfalls in the area and nearby Chimney Rock Park and Lake Lure. So many fun and interesting things to see and do in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.
We arrived late the first night so we didn't get to have dinner and what a mistake that was. Saturday night we ate in the Pine Crest's dining room and had a wonderful experience. The menu was a delightful blend of classic choices such as Fillet Mignon, fresh seafood (Black Carolina Grouper, Atlantic Grilled Salmon, & NC Mountain Rainbow Trout on this night) and some very creative dishes (an organic quail/chicken/turkey roulade). I ordered the Black Angus Fillet Mignon (MR of course) and it may have the most tender, flavorful piece of beef I have ever eaten. My husband had the grouper and it was perfectly cooked with a delightful sauce and an array of beautiful fresh vegetables. The service was excellent and the wine list was the largest I've ever seen and we selected a nice bottle of Syrah, but their selection of single-malt scotch was what really impressed us. My husband loves great scotch and found several selections he hadn't seen anywhere else.
I highly recommend the Pine Crest Inn! It is a remarkably pleasant change from the ordinary. We hated to leave and most definitely will be back!!

This is a hidden gem in Tryon that we never knew existed. The property is beautiful, and we left very relaxed & refreshed. They also have the best wine list we have ever seen and very reasonably priced.
