Home to two former US presidents (Andrew Johnson and James Knox Polk) and former president James Madison's wife, Dolley Madison, North Carolina has so many cities that are worth visiting. Some great destinations are Boone, Winston-Salem, Kitty Hawk, Greenville, Wilmington, Charlotte, Cashiers and Asheville.
75-year-old Great Smoky Mountains National Park, located on the border between North Carolina and Tennessee, is America's most visited national park due to its diverse wildlife and ancient mountains. The park is every hiker's dream, with more than 800 miles of built pathways and trails! If you're not the hiking lover, many visitors also come, hoping to see at least one of the 1,500 bears that are living in the park. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is also home to more than 1,660 different species of flowering plants.
And there's almost a 95% chance that you've heard about North Carolina's world famous barbecued pulled pork. North Carolina pulled pork is made two distinct ways -- whole hog with a vinegar-based sauce or pork shoulder with a tomato-based sauce. Either way, it's a must-try! However, North Carolina has even more to offer when it comes to cooking and food, like its famous fried and fresh seafood style called "calabash."
North Carolina is also the perfect location for your next Girlfriend Getaway! With all of the resorts, beaches and spas that NC offers, you're sure to have a relaxing - while still crying of laughter - time with your favorite girlfriends.
