The Tumble InnApril03/09/2009Our stay was the best. My fiance was suppose to get up early to go ice fishing and Nancy had left him a little snack to take with him to hold him over till he came back for breakfast. That was so sweet. We sat in the Hot Tub with all the snow around us. That was def. awesome. I would go back there any chance I got.

The Tumble InnKristin02/24/2009The atmosphere was great! They had the fireplace ready each night we came in and the hot tub always waiting. We felt like we could make ourselves at home (grabbed wine glasses to take to the hot tub), but Nancy was always available for help and advice. Breakfast was enormous: Day 2 included fruit/yogurt/granola parfait, homemade cinnamon rolls, a veggie and cheese omelet for each person and then a belgium waffle with fresh berries and whipped cream for each person! The bed was incredibly comfortable; my partner said "this must be what angels sleep in!" and we loved having robes and slippers.

The Tumble InnMichael Campbell01/15/2009Our Favorite Romantic Snow-Day:
The Best Place Ever to be Snow-Bound in the Adirondacks
Remember the excitement you felt at around 10 years old when you awoke to hear that school was cancelled? You scampered up to the window seat and pulled the curtains aside to see a magical sugar frosting giving fresh, sculpted beauty to all the old familiar shapes – turning pine shrubs into ice cream cones and the front hill into the best sled run in town. Well, I had thought those magic moments would always remain safely in the past as a nostalgic childhood memory. But that was before the winter trip my wife and I took on Dec. 19-22, 2008. Those days became a lovely escape to a romantic winter wonderland, more beautiful and magical than any snow-days remembered from my childhood. We experienced our first real snow-day together at The Tumble Inn at Schroon Lake, New York in the heart of the beautiful Adirondacks. We meant to stay two nights for a surprise birthday party. But then, winter weather in the Adirondack Mountains of New York has surprises of its own.
We were welcomed to beautiful Christmas decorations – the house looked like a genuine, 19th Century, Adirondack family home decorated for the season. There was always a beautiful fire in the main living room – a cozy room with two soft reading chairs, library shelves, windows to the road, and a door to the hot-tub deck, which offered a warm, bubbly retreat from which we watched the fluffy flakes fall. The bedroom was comfy and elegant, and we were given all the accommodations we asked for. We awoke to hot breakfasts that were, hands-down, the best and most plentiful we’ve experienced in years of B&B’ing.
The first day it snowed 12 inches, followed by 16 the next day. The roads were too bad to travel on Sunday. Nancy offered the room for another night, including a great breakfast on Monday and a warm dinner our last evening there, so we did not have to get out on the roads. Nancy made sure the driveway and sidewalks were clear and safe for us. She maintains the hot tub meticulously, keeping it very clean and hot. She also makes sure a beautiful fire is always burning in the living room for winter guests escaping from the cold Adirondack winters. Nancy is one of the strongest, hardest-working and warmest women we have had the privilege to know, and guests keep returning, largely because of the friendship and camaraderie she provides.
Our trip was planned for a birthday party, but after experiencing the natural beauty of winter in the snowy Adirondacks, reading and intimate conversations fireside, watching the sugary flakes falling around us as we sat in the therapeutic hot tub, and Nancy’s delicious hot coffee always within reach, we are going to make a point of scheduling an annual winter visit to Tumble Inn. There’s no better way to step back into the magic childhood experience of a lovely winter ferry land!

The Tumble InnNickW12/14/2008A lovely place to stay, the area is very beautiful, and the autumn (fall) colours were magnificent as we drove through the Adirondacks. Nancy was very welcoming, and the quality and cleanliness of the rooms was outstanding.
The breakfast was lovingly prepared, and a wonderful spread. We particularly loved the wild blueberries picked that morning by Nancy in the pancakes. We must stay again.

The Tumble InnMichael & Milagros09/22/2008In the early spring of 2007, my wife and I drove north from our home in New York City to feast on the last breath of winter’s landscape, in romantic Montreal. Including the best of Canada, New Hampshire and Vermont, the overwhelming highlight of our trip was experiencing the true Adirondack culture at upstate New York’s Tumble Inn - an easy day trip from Montreal. The unique Adirondack culture embodies a casual and rugged elegance that is the Tumble Inn. Don’t let the whine of snowmobiles and homespun wrap-around porch fool you – the cuisine and amenities rival those of the plushest 5-star Manhattan hotel. From the user-friendly fireplace in the bedroom, to the rich books in the cozy den, our stay at the Tumble Inn allowed us the casual comfort of sweaters and sox and the pampering luxury of a huge, well-maintained hot tub on the wrap-around porch and artistically prepared morning meals. Nancy uses maple syrup tapped right from her own trees along with local organic meat and produce. The taste showed that no expense was spared in using the highest quality ingredients. The period-authentic bathrooms with modernized fixtures are accented with spa-quality soaps and lotions. The interior of the authentic antique-Adirondack home paints the same picture of rugged elegance, with its fine hardwood millwork and rugged stone fireplace, not to mention the plush overstuffed reading lounges and period wooden Adirondack rocking chairs. Just as the Tumble Inn embodies the Adirondack balance between casual spirit and elegant pedigree, Nancy was careful to give us privacy but made herself available as an excellent tour-guide to the Adirondacks, showing us the way - over breakfast - to a beautiful mountain drive and hike through the surrounding snow-capped mountains. We, honestly, did not find one single element of our stay that was less than outstanding. We enjoyed our stay at the Tumble Inn so much that for our many upcoming trips to our beloved Adirondacks we will exclusively book our stays at the Tumble Inn. Thank you, Nancy, for the best B & B stay we’ve ever had!

The Tumble Inndavideaston09/08/2008We really enjoyed our stay at Tumble Inn. Nancy is very a hospitable hostess and made us feel very welcome in this cozy place. She is a great cook too!! The breakfast you'll eat will be fit for royalty!!! You'll have all the energy you'll need for hiking or any other activity. (Also, when we mentioned that we are vegetarians Nancy was very accomodating, making sure to have vegetarian versions of the meals if they had meat).
If you're going to the Adirondacks, do you yourself a favor and stay at this very charming inn...maybe we'll see you there, because we'll definitely be back!!

The Tumble Innmboston09/03/2008My husband and I stayed at the Tumble Inn for our anniversary. It was our first time at a bed and breakfast, and we loved it. The inn is beautiful, very well maintained and immaculately clean. The pictures, while nice, don't do the rooms or the house justice. Nancy has thought of every detail, from homemade cookies and snacks in the living room, to loofahs and robes in the bathroom, to candles and even night lights in the bedrooms. We felt right at home, but better! Nancy is willing to accomodate any dining preference, and has a wealth of information on local attractions. Schroon Lake is a quaint town, relaxing and not too touristy. It will be hard to top this anniversary!

Response We are glad you enjoyed your stay. We knew when we started rennovations that being on the road was good for visibility, but bad for road traffic noise. We hired an landscape architect who suggested the row of trees to buffer the sound. Our two busiest weekends in Schroon Lake are 4th of July and Labor Day because of the town activities. If you came back today, you'd notice quite a change! I am sorry that I have no control over how many cars pass by and hope you'll return on a less busy weekend. Nancy

The Tumble InnMonique01/27/2008We are familiar with Schroon Lake since the 1970s, when we frequently went there for hiking, fishing, canoeing and weekend adventures lake-hopping from Ticonderoga to Placid. As we now live in Arizona, we chose it as a convenient mid-point for a week of reunion with our children, who live in Montreal and NY.
The Tumble Inn was a lucky choice. The rooms (second floor) were spacious, homey, colorful, and carefully maintained. The owners occupy a well-defined, separate portion of the house such that there was no feeling of awkwardness, and the six of us had free run of the dining room evenings for games of Clue and of the screened porch under a towering oak tree for late afternoon drinks.
Breakfasts are a culinary adventure, the most elaborate I've ever encountered - I would only advise guests to discuss preferences in advance and be aware that there may be multiple courses. I am used to small breakfasts and have vegetarian leanings, so I was at first a bit overwhelmed. But don't worry; the owners (Nancy) are happy to oblige.
The location is convenient, close to town on a hillside across the road from the lake, easy to locate, and with ample parking. Nancy is an active supporter of the town and can provide a wide range of local information (historical, recreational, etc.).

The Tumble InnNatalie Lindsey10/10/2007Nancy was VERY accommodating with everything. Check-in time was very flexible. We could use the hottub whenever we wanted (she said no time is too late), and she lit candles for us outside for romance. Before we arrived, she converted the twin beds in the Summer room to a king (at my request). She added lots of little extras, too--downstairs: soft drinks/snacks you could get anytime...in the room: scented candles/matches, fireplace/heater, extra chairs/luggage holders, hangers, bottled water by the bedsides w/cups, nightlights, flashlight, extra pillows/blankets bandaids, Q-tips, toothbrush holder, 2 robes, hairdryer, etc., etc. This is truly a "full-service" B & B. Nancy (and her cousin, Debbie, who was visiting) were very pleasant. And,...breakfast was great. There was a good variety, and it just kept coming and coming. Tumble Inn is a great place to stay! Thanks, Nancy, for everything.

The Tumble InnD08/12/2007What a wonderful place to relax. The atmosphere was cozy, the gardens lit at night with a relaxing hot tub outside was great. Food had great variety and was more than you could eat. But it was the little touches, the water by the bed, the loofa for the bathroom, the tea at night, the robes for the hot tub and the warm stories shared with the hostess, Nancy that made the stay all the more enjoyable.
