In it's prime this property must have been stunning. We know that the present owners are trying to restore it to it's former glory but there is still a way to go yet. The lawn was in serious need of a cut and the flower borders needed a tidy up. The bed rooms are all individual and were reasonably clean. Our hosts were friendly and hospitable, even Misty! The breakfasts were excellent, although not for those of us Brits with small appetites, but they certainly set us up for the day. Our friends chose to stay in the Conservatory Room and were a little disappointed to discover that their en-suite bathroom was in fact across the corridor, screened from the main stair case by only a curtain. Our room had a fridge, a cooker and coffee maker in it. The coffee maker did not work and the fridge was clearly on it's last legs and in the middle of the second night sounded like it was in real pain, causing us to have a very disturbed nights sleep, however, the neighbourhood was fairly quiet as the property is a little way off the main street. Directions from the airport were excellent and we had no trouble finding the property. There were menus for local restaurants available for guests wishing to eat out, however many of them did not have addresses on them, perhaps a useful tip would be to put the locations on to a town plan. All in all a pleasant enough stay and we may return if only for Lamont's wonderful breakfasts!

We had a delightful time with these two couples. They will be glad to know that the fridge has been replaced with a new one, and the coffee maker was only plugged in wrong and works fine. After a wet April, the gardens and lawn are in full bloom and trim. We're glad they enjoyed the breakfasts, even if we overfed them a bit. We look forward to their return.

The house itself is beautiful and the owners are very nice people. The furnishings are in keeping with the Victorian structure. However, there was quite a bit of dust in the bedroom and in the reading room which surprised us and the breakfast was not at all appetizing.

We are sorry that these guests were dissapointed with their stay with us. Our breakfasts are usually considered a highlight of a stay at The Pillars. We typically start with a fruit course that can be fresh fruit salad with a honey and passionfruit yogurt dressing, home made fruit sorbets, or strawberry shortcakes. Our sweet breads can be warm strussel muffins, cheese biscuits, or craison/pecan cresent rolls. Our main courses include salmon cakes with poached eggs, home made hollandaise sause and grilled asparagus, or crab quiche with sauteed spinach and grape tomatoes. We do our best to determine each guest's preferences in advance, but obviously not everyone has the same tastes. We try our best to please all of our guests, and always have cereal and eggs cooked to order as an alternative. The end of March we were doing some behind the scenes work on our laundry rooms. We apologize that we misses some of the dust in their room and the library. Our rooms are generally quite clean, and are cleaned with "green" products.
