From the moment we arrived to the moment we departed Patty and Margaret welcomed us in as if we were family! The Happy Hour discussion around the kitchen workspace, was so comfortable. The ease of dinner reservations was so smooth...the unexpected evening dessert waiting for us by the Breakfast menu was delicious..the DVD selection I am sure is amazing..the crackle of the fireplace and the aroma of the breakfast waffling throughout the log cabin..nudged us out of our morning slumber..do not delay in making your reservations! Did I mention the oversized tub and two headed shower!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For our first anniversary, my husband and I decided to look into bed and breakfasts in the Finger Lakes. We like the region and wanted to explore some of the wineries. When we came across the Chalet of Canandaigua, we knew it was the perfect place to celebrate.
When we arrived, we were warmly greeted by Margaret. She explained how things worked (very helpful for people who have never been to a B&B before!), told us about attractions in the area, and even provided menus of local restaurants. Something that really impressed me is that Margaret and Pattie (the owners) frequently go the restaurants to make sure they are still worth recommending. Margaret even offered to make our dinner reservations for us!
When you go to a bed and breakfast, breakfast is, of course, expected. However, the breakfasts at the Chalet were far beyond anything I would have anticipated! They serve three courses each morning. Three full courses of delicious and creatively presented food! Coffee and juice are also abundant - we particularly enjoyed "Maggie's Mix" of orange and cranberry-raspberry juices (we've started re-creating it at home!). We liked that breakfast time was flexible - you could eat anywhere between 8:00 and 9:30, rather than being forced into a set breakfast time. Because the weather was nice, we were able to dine on the large porch both mornings. It was so nice to start the day by enjoying breakfast in the sun!
While breakfast is expected at a B&B, an unexpected treat was dessert each night. When you got in from wherever you had dinner, there was a delicious dessert waiting for you!
We stayed in the Lee Suite, and it was fantastic! The suite was very spacious, with a large, comfortable sleigh bed. There were leather chairs where we spent a lot of time reading. The chairs flanked a gas fireplace, which was not available for use during the summer, but I'm sure would be wonderful in the winter! The bathroom was gigantic and featured a large soaking tub - very relaxing! The suite also had a number of other nice features, like a mini-fridge, a coffee maker, wine glasses and a corkscrew (to make enjoying those bottle of Finger Lakes wine so much easier), and many more.
Because we were celebrating our anniversary, we chose to spend most of our time together in our suite. However, there were many nice places throughout the Chalet to sit and enjoy reading, playing board games, or chatting. They have a large DVD collection as well.
Throughout our time at the Chalet, Margaret and Pattie went the extra mile to make sure our stay was pleasant. They put a "1" candle on our breakfast plates in honor of our first anniversary. They also packed us an amazing picnic lunch (for an extra charge) to take along with us as we visited the wineries of Keuka Lake.
We were looking for someplace romantic and relaxing to spend our first anniversary, and we certainly found it at the Chalet! We would highly recommend it to anyone, and we hope to head back ourselves at some point.
