Martin Hill Inn

Portsmouth New Hampshire's first bed & breakfast inn, the Martin Hill Inn, is located within walking distance of Portsmouth's shops, restaurants and historic attractions. Its two early 19th century, Greek-Revival buildings are situated on land originally sold by New Hampshire Lt. Gov. George Vaughn to the Martin family in 1710 for 50 British pounds. Over the years, this area of Portsmouth became known as Martin Hill. The Main House of the B&B contains three guest rooms furnished with period furniture including queen-size canopy or four-poster beds. The Guest House of the bed and breakfast contains four rooms with queen-size canopy, spindle, or iron and brass beds, and is connected to the Main House by a short, flower-lined, brick path and patio with a lush water garden.
After a busy day, return to the inn and relax in the lovely perennial gardens that cover much of the property. Sit by the water garden and enjoy the peaceful sounds of running water as you plan for dinner at one of Portsmouth's many outstanding restaurants. When snow blankets the gardens, settle into the warmth of the Winter Parlor.
The Martin Hill Inn has been featured in Country Inns magazine and chosen for two consecutive years as a Yankee Magazine Travel Guide to New England "Editors' Pick."
We look forward to seeing you and are confident that your stay with us will provide you with many special memories. |
