Welcome to the Little River Bed and Breakfast. We are a recently renovated 1870s farmhouse situated along the scenic Nubanusit River in the quaint New England town of Peterborough, New Hampshire which is located in the Southwest corner of the state known as the Monadnock Region.

Originally built as a single family house, it was purchased around 1910 by Marian and Edward MacDowell to be used as housing for the first male artists accepted to the world famous MacDowell Colony (the oldest artist colony in the United States). It is believed that Thornton Wilder stayed here during his Summers at the colony while writing his now classic American play "Our Town" (Grover's Corners, NH was inspired by Peterborough, NH).

In the 1930s and 1940s the house was operated as the MacDowell Colony Inn and welcomed travelers to Peterborough and the Monadnock region throughout the year. From the 1950s to the early 2000s the house was used as a single family and multi-family residence and in 2005 we purchased the home with the intention of converting it into a Bed and Breakfast. At the time of our purchase, we were unfamiliar with the home's history and were pleasantly surprised to learn it had hosted guests in the past.

With renovations completed, we opened Little River Bed and Breakfast in the Spring of 2007. With a casual style, modern amenities, and hearty gourmet breakfasts, leisure and business travelers alike find the B&B a comfortable, relaxing, and enjoyable place to stay.

As a small Bed and Breakfast, we rely heavily on advanced reservations and cancellations affect us greatly. Please notify us as soon as possible if your reservation needs to be changed or cancelled. * Fourteen days or more in advance: Full refund minus $10 for processing fees per room * Less than fourteen days in advance: Full refund minus $10 for processing fees per room if the room is re-booked. Cancellations are not accepted by email or through a message left on the phone; you must call and speak with the innkeeper to cancel a reservation. In the event of a cancellation a confirmation number will be issued to you - this number is verification we have recorded your cancellation, so make sure you receive one. No call/no shows are billed for the full stay.

Deposit Policy:
One night’s lodging per room will be charged via credit card at the time the reservation is confirmed. If not paying by credit card a check is required within seven days of making the reservation. If reserving less than twenty-one days in advance of the reservation date, deposit must be made with a credit card. Balance is due at check-in. No refunds for early departures.
