In my life I have stayed in many places and occupied beds as spartan as an army barracks and as luxurious as a five star hotel on the French Riviera. All had their purpose and place in time and a slot in my memory to be pulled out
and examined when occasioned by some present day event, important or, more often, totally insignificant. I knew and respected them for what they were: temporary quarters to be enjoyed or endured but not confused with beds of greater importance such as my bed when I was growing up and my marital bed later on as an adult.
The Inn at Ellis River has come closer than any place I have known to being associated in my mind and senses with home. The building itself, set back 100 yards from the road is long and low, possessing a comfortable scale of a
private house for someone with a large family. The Ellis River runs down from the mountains another fifty yards behind the building adding sight and sound that I found comforting. The interior compounds the impression of a
private residence, and one that might have been on the cutting edge of Edwardian style at the turn of the twentieth century. The rooms are not the huge spaces meant for busloads of tourists fresh from McDonalds but instead but to accommodate small groups, couples and single people looking for both comfort, convenience and atmosphere. There is a billiard room with green complicated wallpaper and a dark wood bar. I could almost see stout, elderly
gentlemen sitting reading the London Times while puffing on Havana leaf with a snifter of whiskey by their side. The room we had was not large but comfortable with a modern bath/Jacuzzi combination. The was a small TV/CD player on the dresser for those unable to be away from such entertainment. The bed was extremely comfortable.
The most important part of the Inn At Ellis River, however, was not the building or the decor, or even the beds, but the inn keepers and staff who consciously and unconsciously went out of their way to make us feel welcome and part of the Ellis River family. We got a hug from Lyn Norris and a warm handshake from her husband, Frank. We swapped laughs and a joke or two with the friendly woman making up a bed in one of the rooms. The morning we were due to depart, we enjoyed an excellent breakfast(eggs benedict en croute were superb and the Harrington bacon that came with it was almost in a totally different food group from the standard offerings at the supermarket) and were served by a young woman who joked and smiled as if we were family.
It is easy to speak highly of such a place run by such people. Praise simply glides of the tongue and into the word processor but, for myself and my wife, the most important point comes last. During the ongoing recession companies
are emphasizing customer services and trying to retain as many customers as possible. I have spent years in the customer service field and recognize two basic truths. The first is that you can teach elements of dealing with
people and standardize much of the interaction between an organization and its customers but that only gets you so far.The second truth is that there are people who are born with the instinct and personality that allows them to relate almost instantly to people around them. They are to customer service what the Paul Dean is to the Food Network. The Inn at Ellis Riveris blessed to have several of these talented people. We met them and were instantly captivated.
Do put this inn on your MUST VISIT list. It will be well worth the time and effort.

What a great choice we made. The inn was immaculate, The staff was friendly and very accommodating to our dietary needs. The food was better than a 5 star restaurant. We loved everything about the inn and we will certainly go back.

If anyone is looking for a relaxing getaway, honeymoon, or vacation, this is the place! This was our honeymoon and we were treated wonderfully! The room was beutiful, so peaceful and relaxing. The Innkeepers were friendly and very accomodating, as was the staff. The "included" breakfasts every morning were a wonderful (delicious) way to start each day! We enjoyed the little pub/gameroom, the private deck overlooking the river, and the easygoing realxing environment, and they recommended great places for us to eat dinner! I hop to get back there some day for an anniversary getaway! Thanks Frank & Lynn, we really enjoyed out romantic honeymoon vacation!

The attention we received was comparable with staying at a resort but on a more personal level. Very helpful, and organized, the inn was able to help us sightsee, eat at local eateries and just relax with the immenities provided by the inn. Well worth the money.

We have just had a marvelous stay in a gorgeous Bed and Breakfast—the Inn at Ellis River in Jackson, New Hampshire. We had the kindest hosts in the world—Lyn and Frank Baker. We had such a wonderful time that I would like to write and let others know about the fabulous hospitality and lovely rooms and public spaces. Our room was delightful and the breakfasts were superb. The spectacular frittatas, omelets, and home-baked raspberry, blueberry, and lemon cakes were just the beginning. Each afternoon after our day of hiking we were greeted by the smiling faces of Lyn and Frank in addition to home-baked cookies and beverages. The screened-in pagoda overlooking the beautiful Ellis River is another touch never to be forgotten. Thanks to Lyn and Frank for a truly delightful time.

Our stay was more than we could have hoped! We worked with Lyn and Frank to plan our small wedding and reception at the Inn, and everything was even more wonderful than we had imagined. The Inn is beautiful, the setting is peaceful, the service is amazing, the food is delicious, and we cannot wait to have the chance to return! We most highly recommend Inn at Ellis River for any special occasion or vacation.
