Munson Chamber

Named after James Decker Munson, MD, head of the “Asylum,” who donated a boarding house for use as a community hospital in 1915. Later to become known as Munson Medical Center, the hospital was northern Michigan’s first general hospital, and was organized as the hospital division of the State Psychiatric Hospital. Originally this bed chamber would have been shared by two of the Hull sons, likely Gerald and William. Today it features an 1865 Victorian Renaissance Revival black walnut full-sized bed and 1865 button-tuffted demi-arm chairs from England, and vintage draperies and bedspread. A special feature of this room is a private balcony overlooking the historic neighborhood and, in particular, the mansion built by the owners’ father, Henry Hull. This bed chamber includes a private vintage bath with the original pedestal tub and sink. (FYI - Room includes telephone and high-speed internet connection. Ramsdell

This chamber takes its name from Jonathan G. Ramsdell, (known as ‘JG’), a prominent Traverse City resident, Circuit Judge and member of Michigan Union Silver Party State Central Committee 1899. Originally Jane Hull’s bedroom, this spacious room would have accommodated sizable furnishings and gave the young girl ample space to display an assortment of favorite collections. Today this 1915 Italianate bedroom suite, made in Holland Michigan by the Sligh company, features a queen-sized bed with cameo-carved medallions and Victorian Renaissance Revival hoop-skirt chairs. The vintage private bath features its original pedestal tub and fixtures. (FYI - Room includes telephone and high-speed internet connection. Votruba

This Chamber takes its name from Frank Vortruba, one of builders of the Opera House in 1891 (first TC facility to use electric lights, 1200 seats). The Vortruba family had a harness shop and leather goods business. Part of the original master suite, originally Mrs. Hull’s bedroom, this bed chamber features an 1880 Kingwood Napolean III full-sized bed with heavily carved floral crest, an elegant Victorian armoire, loveseat and chair. Also included is a private bath with oversized shower. Of particular interest is a discovery that was made during the restoration. After removing 5 layers of paint, the base layer revealed caricatures created by the original painters and paper hangers, autographed and dated 1908. This unique feature has been carefully sealed and remains as a tribute to the artisans that created the home. (FYI - Room includes telephone and high-speed internet connection. Room Rate is $170 - $195, double occupancy, including full breakfast)

This 3rd floor bed chamber, originally a Hull family guest room, features a 1915 French-style bedroom suite with two full-sized beds, heavily carved Victorian velvet arm chair with side chairs.
