The Carlisle House Inn
Located on a quiet cobblestoned street just off the main streets of Nantucket town, The Carlisle House Inn was built in 1765 for Richard Swain, a prominent whaling captain. The house stayed in the Swain family until the 1850s, surviving the Great Fire of 1846 that destroyed much of the downtown. Since the 1880s the Carlisle House Inn has been welcoming guests and providing a convenient, warm, historic and comfortable "home away from home" to travelers from all corners of the world.
