When assessing travel & lodging, as in most things, "know thyself" should be the prime factor. If you are looking for a simple, unpretentious room, a really comfortable mattress, lowkey, but really responsive staff, a really great nutrition-conscious breakfast buffet (including good strong coffee, organic yogurt & milk, fresh eggs, non-dairy and gluten free options, freshly baked savories, whole grain breads and sweet pastries, lovely fresh fruit and cheese); no piped in music, good books and magazines available to borrow; two lovely front porches with tables, chairs -- and yes, ashtrays -- on a quiet block within walking distance to the heart of Harvard Square, but with -- and get this Cambridge lovers -- LEGAL & FREE PARKING SPOTS -- then Irving House is for you. It's not cheap, but you really get what you pay for, especially if you're not expecting over the top luxury of the conspicuous consumption type. An Inn with a conscience.
