A secluded gem just an hour and a half from Chesapeake Bay Bridge. This Maryland private island estate has been sealed off by Russian spies, housed the CIA, and the first Gulf War was planned in the sunroom. Now the sanctuary gate secures the half-mile drive through 52 acres of bird sanctuary before opening to our 6 acre island of gardens and lawn. The sun rises over the Choptank River and sets over the Chesapeake Bay, which makes wind, waves and endless water views the hallmark. A pair of nesting eagles, resident osprey, migrating butterflies, waterfowl and songbirds are commonly seen along with Bay dolphin; and the back cove is a spawning grounds for rockfish. At night the stars are uninterrupted, another surprise of nature, making lodging at Black Walnut Point Inn a quiet, secret place of peace in Tilghman Island.

Black Walnut Point Inn is unmatched in seclusion and perfect for intimate gatherings with a sunset ceremony. The grounds can accommodate up to 250 people with a tent, and the Inn maintains intimacy for your wedding party, one-of-a-kind social event, family reunion, fund-raiser or private board meeting in the four rooms of the 1840ís house and three luxury cabins.

We look forward to hosting you!

We have two semi-ferrel rescued kitties. Our tomcats, Samantha and Harriet, or Sam and Harry, live under the main house between the logs on which it sits, where they are warmed by the furnace. They do not come inside the house or cabins.

Ours was a retreat funded by three different benefactors, which was so kind of them to do ... a catastrophic illness, multiple surgeries, complications related to treatment, all and more had been our focus for five years, progressively getting worse from year to year ... until this treat was made available to us. We needed a lot of space to accomodate the medical equipment. We needed seclusion. We needed no sense of deadlines. We needed warmth and protection from the elements, without losing the wildness of nature. We needed this peninsula and the innkeepers who knew how to accommodate us. There are so many more details that could be shared, but we will save them for another time ... in a long thank-you note ...

I had been here before but it was in the winter. Nothing could have prepared me for the difference of the 2 stays. The birds in summer are wonderful, the water takes on a life of its own, the lawn is lovely and the sky is breathtaking at both sunrise and sunset. The hosts are just beyond words! The food is grand and the treats are so special. The pool area offers a nice place to take a dip and cool off. The towns in the area have so much to offer. Shops with many secret finds abound. The drawbridge is a nice little plus as not too many still exist. The local restaurants are spectacular. The kayaking takes you away to a quit place where you and the water feel as one. I have already planned to return in the fall. This is a MUST visit when thinking of the eastern shore.

Our stay was amazing. Bob and Tracy were wonderful, caring and FUN! I can't wait to go back and visit Tilghman Island and Black Walnut Point! We would highly recommend a visit. If you can afford it the cabins are worth every penny!
