Come for a getaway to Great Oak Manor Bed & Breakfast in Chestertown, MD where the only honking comes from the geese, where the closest highway is the geese flyway and where the only traffic you see from your room are the boaters sailing the crystal water just 200 yards away.
Great Oak Manor offers a private and secluded setting on the Chesapeake Bay for that "get-a-way from it all" feeling in a magnificent 1700's style country estate with 11 guest rooms. And when you want to explore you will find Chestertown, Rock Hall and the Eastern Neck Refuge close by. We are situated on 12 peaceful acres with a commanding view of the Chesapeake Bay, on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Great Oak Manor speaks an elegant lifestyle gone by. It is conveniently accessible from Washington D.C., Baltimore and Philadelphia - all within a comfortable 1-1/2 hour driving distance.
Whether it's antiquing or shopping in Chestertown or Rock Hall, or dining at one of our many fine restaurants, there's much to do within minutes of the inn. On any day there's fishing, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, taking a shot at sporting clays, or cycling across the county along scenic byways. Next door at the landing you’ll find golfing, tennis, and birding... or just relax and watch the sunset from the Inn's own terrace. Great Oak is the place to come home to! |

The Inn and its keepers are simply wonderful. Rolling grounds with lots of water-frontage of priceless views. Plenty of chairs and room for privacy or congregating as a group on the rolling lawn. Small Eastern Shore beach front allows wading and walking to adjoining marina property; yet Manor property is very private relative to the neighboring marina. Fresh fruit and cheese in the afternoon, Port and Sherry in the drawing room by night, and fresh fruit and baked muffins followed by cooked-to-order full breakfast in the morning. A civilized check out time of Noon. Warm and welcoming staff and owners with plenty of soft towels for room and for the beach/bay wading, and robes in the room to die for! We had a suite with sitting room, large bedroom and large bath with tub and skylight; closet very large and TV recessed behind an oil painting; lots of windows made the suite bright and even more spacious. Rooms in general are spacious differing in size and mood. Public areas spacious with plenty of access to the outdoor grounds which are lovely. Sitting at the property edge, 50' above the 1000 feet of water front, water lapping below on the beach and rock, taking in the sun or moving under a large canopy oak, reading a book with coffee or wine and cheese with friends was near Heaven. Limited dog friendly (only one at a time) accomodation and a gem of an on-site Golden Retriever, Charlie, was perfect for us. We are going back in the spring! The only thing wrong we can think of is that we booked only one night to stay. Neighboring Chestertown has nice shops and galleries, and is pleasant for strolling with decent food choices. Nearby Rock Hall offers a fun outdoor Marina eatery, Harbor Shack, and a very fine restaurant at competing B&B Osprey Inn. Stayed there too and there is Noooo comparison though the Restaurant there is very good and well rated with a nice wine list. We would strongly recommend Great Oak and we will be returning there not soon enough.

My wife and I are regular guests at GOM. The innkeepers, Cassandra and John treat every guest like family, making all feel welcomed and at home. We have stayed in six of the rooms and have always found them elegant, well appointed, and comfortable. Breakfast always includes a homemade special from Cassandra's recipe file, which she gladly shares if requested. We use GOM as are escape place to decompress from work and daily stress. We have taken our son, daughter, and their spouses to the Manor for weekends and regular suggest GOM to our friends. We encourage you to try it; I would be most surprised if you don't make it a regular destination of your own.

This is the third year that my wife, Rita, and I have stayed here for our anniversary. It has become Rita's all time favorite place to relax and unwind. By now we know what to expect, but somehow Cassandra and John always find a way to make our stay more special. The accomodations are great, the breakfasts delicious, the surroundings beautiful and the sunsets on the bay spectacular. It's a great place...you have to try it!

We can't wait to go back!!!! EVERYHTING was wonderful. We received a gift to stay here and we now know the perfect gift to give others. Cassandra and John (and now Charlie) are wonderful hosts. These were the best couple of days that we have had in a long time. Truly spectacular. Do yourself a favor and check it out. You will not be sorry.

If you are looking for solitude, and a totally restful atmosphere, plus gracious and attentive hospitality, the Great Manor Inn needs to be your destination. The Manor is a restored Georgian style building located on the Chesapeake Bay, on several hundreds of acres of oak-treed acres. You have several types of rooms to choose from, some with working fireplaces, a well-stocked book and video library, a gorgeous conservatory for enjoying the view or reading. The hosts could not have been hospitable--from dinner reservations in the nearby college town of Chestertown, to preparing and serving sumptuous breakfasts to discussing the areas points of interest.
Simply a great experience--if you need total relaxation away from the city, traffic and people.
