Charming ambiance from the early 1900s is still evident in the original tin ceilings, Georgia pine floors - once the shelves for the canned goods - and the original oak display counter. The hosts have added to the charm with antique quilts that are family heirlooms. A healthy supply of soft drinks, M&Ms and peanuts lets you know that southern hospitality is still alive!

The Dining Area

In the morning, enjoy a full gourmet breakfast at the Stammtisch, located on the main floor in a cozy corner of the old grocery store. Stammtisch is a German tradition of a table set aside for the family and friends. Fresh home baked goods, fresh fruits year round and a main dish individually prepared, fruit juices, coffee and tea will keep you well fortified until mid-afternoon. Our meals are served on pottery made just for the Chez Amis!

The Capitol Room

Located on the point of our triangular building, this room has a view of the Capitol building, the oldest continuously operating Capitol building in the United States. It also features a king size brass bed, handmade quilts, as well as American antiques such as a school desk, church pew, dresser and sewing machine. In addition to its own bath, it has an extra pedestal porcelain sink in the room with an antique mirror.

European Adventures

The room contains many items brought back from Europe by the hosts. It features a matching king-size bed and day bed with trundle. Located on the main level off the living area, its walls are decorated with European paintings from Germany, Italy, France and England.
