The Homer family proudly wants to invite interested visitors to stay at their family homestead, which consists of 5 acres of panoramic ocean frontage in beautiful Southwest Harbor, Maine.
The Birches was built as a summer cottage in 1916. Extensive renovations in 1974 have produced a year round house reminiscent of Maine at its best. Today The Birches beckons you to experience its many charms in an area of Maine known for its beauty. Enjoy large airy rooms, private baths, ocean views, gardens, and the croquet court.
Your Hosts Dick and Rocky will welcome you to one of their lovely guest rooms, and you will be served a wonderful breakfast, great conversation, and an informative discussion about the Island's tourist spots. We have 5 acres of grounds, no traffic noise, and it is just 350 yards to the first tee at the golf course. Acadia National Park is beside us and it is a short walk to the start of the trails to Valley Cove and the mountains. We are open year-round, accepting reservations for a two night minimum. |

We stayed at the Causway Cottage, new this year. It's large, two bedrooms
with queen beds and separate baths - - a little expensive for 4 but ideal for a family and will accomodate up to 7. We loved it! We are multi time
repeaters at The Birches.

The Homer Family hospitality was much more than my 78 yrs-young mom and I expected. Quiet, beautiful setting, with spectacular views, comfortable and spacious bedrooms, and yummy food. There were plenty of resources for planning whatever kind of day we wanted, with helpful advice for finding the hidden gems of the area. We will stay for a longer period of time on the next trip. The Birches is a fantastic B&B, the Homer Family is incredibly welcoming and this is the place that helped create one of the best vacation destinations mom and I have enjoyed!

The Birches is a true coastal Maine stay. The perfect getaway; everything you want in a B&B without all the fuss. Near everything but a world away. The hosts are long-time Island residents and were so pleasant and interesting to talk with. Our room had the most beautiful view of the harbor/cove, and was more than ample and very clean. The grounds were lovely right down to the waterfront.

My husband and I have stayed in B&B's for years and love them. However, we stayed at The Birches Bed & Breakfast with the Homers and found it to be the best experience ever! Our room overlooked the bay and we could walk down to the dock. One evening we took a pizza and beer and watched the sunset. Our room was large and airy and the breakfasts were delicious and plentiful. We'll be going back to hike in the fall.

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying with the Homers at The Birches Bed & Breakfast, Sep 11-13, 2009. The B&B was lovely - with beautiful views of Southwest Harbor, and the breakfasts were great. But it was the innkeepers - the Homer family - that really made the weekend special. They are very warm, "down-to-earth" people and they welcomed us with open arms into their home. With only 3 guest rooms, it was a very personal experience. They love to share their home and are genuinely interested in getting to know their guests and helping them plan their daily activities. The breakfast conversations with the Homers and other guests were so interesting, we often lingered for an hour or two, sharing life experiences. After just a few days, we felt like we had known them for years. We have stayed in numerous B&Bs throughout New England, and my husband and I both agreed that our experience at The Birches was the best ever. We highly recommend their B&B and will definitely go back.
